I'm looking for any information on the Tressler Orphans Home which was in Tyrone Township in 1920. My grandfather and his sister were both there for some number of years. Does the home (orphanage) still exist? Where might I find any records? Thanks for any help at all, Colette
Hello Colette, The Tressler Orphans Home, which traced its history back to 1868 when it began caring for Civil War orphans, closed the orphanage in the 1950's and continued various other modes of social service. In the 1970's the organization became Tressler Lutheran Services and two years ago they merged with another group to become Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries. The Website for current successors of Tressler Lutheran Orphanage is at: http://www.diakon.org/tressler.html Their "Contact Us" page is at: http://www.diakon.org/contact_us.html I am sure they will be happy to share their history with you and tell you if the information you seek is available.
