Donna: Unfortunately I know zero, zilch, nada about Catharine Wallis right now, other than a name on the census. This is how I have followed her, as I believe, the wife of Henry Walt in 1850 census. Henry died in 1853. Then in the 1860 census Catharine Walt is a lone head of household with her children. Then by 1870, I believe she had been remarried to someone in the WALLIS line, but he is not identified in the household. I don't know why. Is he dead or did he just leave? Maybe she married WALLIS between 1861 and 1862, as she has Susan WALLIS age 8 in the 1870 census. The Walt children that show up in the 1870 census and Catharine's age are the key to why I have identified Catharine Walt and Catharine Wallis as probably the same person. After 1870, Catharine WALLIS seems to disappear from the face of the earth. I cannot find any Perry County burial evidence or marriage evidence. I cannot find her in the 1880 census anywhere in the entire county. I am trying to identify her to the later marriage or, to her parents. I hope that someone in the WALLIS line might recognize her because of the child Susan R. Wallis. 1850 Census Liverpool Borough, Perry Co., PA 1013 - 498 SEPT 17, 1850 Dwelling # 96 Family # 95 Henry Walt age 33, M, Boatbuilder, born Penna., Catharine, age 30, F, Penna. I have several other family lines that used different spellings of the same surname, even within in the same generation. I don't know if the WALLACE and WALLIS lines are related yet. I have read that there was a District Attorney named WALLIS in New Bloomfield in the late 1800s. Do your think we can sort this out? Another family branch, the Rhoades, also in Perry County, have at least 4 different spellings -- Rhoades, Rhodes, Rhoads, and Rodes -- sometimes in the same document!!!
