    3. October 30, 1912 George W. Smith Blain, Pa., October 29, 1912 It is with sorrow we announce the death of George W. Smith, of this place, which occurred last Wednesday. He died of complication of diseases. Mr. Smith was of a kind and loving disposition and was well liked by all who knew him. He was a veteran of the Civil War and was with Sherman on his famous march to the sea and was also in several battles, namely, Fredericksburg, the seven days battle and the battle of Bull Run. He loved his country which he served as well as he did his God. His genial, pleasant smile and his presence will be missed in many ways and by many acquaintances. He was a faithful member of the M.E. church, having united in young manhood, in which faith he lived until the last. He was secretary of the Sabbath school for 34 years and in this place will be sadly missed. Mr. Smith was born Dec. 14, 1842, and died October 23, 1912, aged 69 years, 10 months and 10 days. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Maude, at home, and one son, R.M. Smith, of this place; also by the following brothers: S.G. & Peter Smith, of this place, and several brothers in the west. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. in the M.E. church. Services by his pastor, Rev. G.P. Sarves, assisted by Revs. P.H. Hoover and J.C. Reighard.
