    1. [PA-Perry] Re: History of Cumberland and Adams Counties - KIRKPATRICK
    2. Donna Heller Zinn
    3. Hi Chuck and Fellow Listers: Here are some other KIRKPATRICKs listed in the Cumberland Co. History: pg.17 Mr. Benjamin CHAMBERS and Mr. George CROGHAN had about an hour before separated from us, and on my meeing them again in Cumberland Co. they reported to me they had been at Sheerman's Creek or Little Juniata [note: Shermans Creek, now Perry Co., PA.] situated about 6 miles over the Blue Mountain, and found there Richard KIRKPATRICK ... [and several others listed], who had settled lands and erected cabins or log houses thereon; and having convicted them of the trespass on thier view, they had bound them in recognizances of the penalty of 100 pounds to appear and answer for their trespasses on the first day of the next county court of Cumberland, to be held at Shippensburg and that the said trespassers had likewise entered into bonds to the proprietaries in five hundred pounds penalty to remove off immediately, with all their servants, cattle and effects, and had delivered possession of their houses to Mr. George STEVENSON for the proprietaries' use; and that Mr. STEVENSON had ordered some of the meanest of those cabins to be set on fire, where the families were not large nor the improvements considerable. pg.107 War of 1812-1815 - title of subject/paragraph "There were other companies" says Dr. WING, "which went to Baltimore from the eastern towns in the county, and from what is now Perry Co.. It is said that these were in the detachment which was sent to lie in ambush by the route on which the British troops were expected to advance on its way to Baltimore. As Gen. ROSS, the commander of these troops, was riding by the spot where they were concealed, it is said that two sharpshooters raised their pieces and were about to fire. Anorder was given them to desist, but before one of them, whose name was KIRKPATRICK, from over the mountains, could understand the order, he fired his gun and the British general fell. The result was that a tremendous volley was fired into the thicket where they were concealed; but confusion was thrown into the plans of the invading party by the loss of their commander and the idea of occupying Baltimore was given up." pg.424 Biographical Sketches from the Borough of Mechanicsburg Andrew RALSTON (s/o David and _____ SCOTT RALSTON) married a Miss _____ KIRKPATRICK. The before mentioned David RALSTON lived near the Big Spring, Cumberland Co. and later in 1806 removed to Westmoreland Co., PA. where he died in 1810 near Greensburg. David was twice married - first to a Miss SCOTT and had Andrew who married a KIRKPATRICK and second to a Miss MCCLINTOCK - both wives died at Big Spring. pg.521 Isabella Jane KIRKPATRICK was married to Hugh BRADY (d.September 1881) and had the following children: Jane Elizabeth; Eleanor Culbertson; Rebecca Shields, Hannah Malvina; Margaret, Samuel Albert, William Alexander, John Kirkpatrick, Cyrus Brady and James Henderson. [note: I presume that the second name listed with the daughters are given middle names and not married names???] In same paragraph: Samuel McCUNE (b.1770 d.November 16, 1813) married Hannah BRADY (b.January 1, 1776 d.May 16, 1847) and had a daughter, Margaret (b.April 9, 1801) who married Moses KIRKPATRICK. Hope this helps as well! Donna Chuck Davidson wrote: > > Hello Donna: Outstanding; most of what you listed is part of my wife's > line. Not sure of P. 394.
