    3. Hi Carolyn, Donna and Fellow Perry County Listers: My fourth great grandfather John Lemon, lived in Toboyne township further up the valley. He and Dianna Patterson were married by Rev. Linn in the Centre Presbyterian church on 16 Apr 1782. In John's will he lists three children, Alexander, Polly and Elizabeth. According to Scots-Irish naming conventions, Alexander would be the second son. I would like to find out if there was another older son who died as a child. I found the marriage information in the list of Rev. Linn's marriages listed in Donna's E-mail. Carolyn mentions the reference below, where is it available? Are there other records available of the Centre Presbyterian Church. If there is another son, he should have been named after John's father. This may help me in finding him. I would appreciate any help anyone might have. Thanks Leon [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Carolyn K Shearer [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, August 21, 2002 12:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [PA-Perry] Linn of Perry Co >From "The Centennial Memorial of the Presbytery of Carlisle" (Harrisburg, 1889) Vol II, pp59-60.(abstract) 'Rev John Linn was born in Adams County 1749, of Scotch Irish descent. 3. The book that I quoted is only minutes of the Presbytery, not of any of the individual churches. I think the marriages have been published, but don't remember seeing any baptisms. Have you checked with the Perry County Historians? Just a comment on 'naming patterns.' I have been a genealogist for almost 40 years, over 25 as a full time professional, and I have yet to see more than a couple of Scotch Irish families stick to any of the 'naming patterns' that seem to circulate on the internet. The same is true for the Germans. I have a lot of Bible records, so know the name of the children that died young and the 'pattern' theory still does not work very often. The place that it seems to have been used with a great degree of regularity is in the Dutch church records of early New York. This marriage is from Cumberland County Marriages, 1761-1800 from the Zeamer Collection, published in the PA Genealogical Magazine, FTM CD #213, and also found on FTM CD #172 (PA Vital Records). this is not my line, I just copied it for use as an example that not all our ancestors married in their early 20's. 17 Sep 1797. Married by Rev John Linn, Rev John Hoge, age 82, to Miss Rosannah McEwen, age 38, Juniata Twp, Shearman's Valley.
