Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/odB.2ACI/853 Message Board Post: Have been going through the updated Ancestry.com census for 1840 and came across two Perry County, PA, Shattos on the same census page (see below) who previously were not indexed. Unfortunately the township is not given, either on the Ancestry.com index nor on the census page. I cannot place these two. The enumerator's writing is quite elegant and clear. However David Shatto's name - if indeed it is Shatto - is written a bit strangely. The final "o" is perfectly formed; the line curves up on the right and over to the top to complete the letter with a little circle at the top; but the line then flourishes out to the right, down and then under the name. The letter almost looks like a "z" or "g" whereby the name at casual glance looks like "Shattg". The name "William Shatto" is quite clear and without the flourish described above. If the head of the household for each entry is the oldest male, then David Shatto would have been born between 1770-1780. I have yet to run across a David Shatto born within this year range. Neither have I run across a William Shatto born between 1810-20. I assume these two household are related. It looks like a father named David, living with a wife 20 years his junior, and their children in one household. The other household could be a son William. Any ideas??
