Carolyn: Thank-you for this information. You really hit pay dirt on my Askey family. I appreciate the time that you took to look this up. I believe that the "Thomas Askins" that you found is an Askey, since that spelling has been found many times in our Askey research. The two Evans daughters who married Askey brothers were William and Rachel Bonner-Evans daughters. Mary Evans is my 4th great-grandmother. I think that I might need to look more closely at the cemetery in Jacksonville for the Evanses. I would be interested in finding information on the John Bonner on the list that you cited. I suspect, from the naming customs observed, that Rachel Bonner's father was a John Bonner, but that is just a hunch. As far as "Germantown" goes, I found a reference in the Centre County Library, in the "Evans" file by D H McDonald, that "the village of germantown" was located at "Shearman's Creek and Valley." If you come across anything else, please keep me in mind. Could not find anything definite on your William Evans, but did find this in "American Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin County" (pg24) which may provide some clues. Capt. Hi Terry. I wasn't able to find anything on Jacob Singer, but am curious to find out if you have any information on a George Singer. I received a photo album from the estate of a recently deceased cousin. We are fairly certain that many of the photos are of our Hamilton ancestors who lived in Liverpool. The only photo that is identified is labeled in pencil "Geo. Singer." The photo was taken by C. H. Snively of Millersburg, and from the clothing, hairstyles and photo type, we're estimating late 1800s. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Michele, I did a check of my 1790 PA census for the name William EVANS. In 1790 there were only two (2) counties that had a "Germantown"..Philadelphia and Franklin. Out of the 2 counties, only Philadelphia had a Wm EVANS. This is the information that was given for the census. Wm EVANS was the head of household. He is listed in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, in the Southern District, Pine Street, South Side. His occupation was listed as a Taylor. Hello, List: I am new to this list, since I have just figured out that the area that I am researching is within Perry County. I am looking for information on William Evans and Rachel Bonner. Their daughter, Mary "Polly" Evans was my 4th great-grandmother, born in 1782. Her place of birth is "Germantown." She married Robert Askey in 1801 and moved to Clearfield County with him. I believe that they may have been affiliated with the Centre Presbyterian Church, but this is a guess. There is a great deal of research on the Askey men. I am trying to fill in information on the women in my family tree. Are there any researchers out there with information on this family? Michele

They were in Missouri in 1851-1854, then were in Kansas, nearly present-day Manhattan & Fort Riley from 1854 to 1870. In 1870 they moved to Cowley county KS. The 1850 census shows Sarah Nelson & Nancy Nelson, in their late 30s, and Robert Nelson, age 19, living in the Stewart household. I assume they are related, but I don't know how. (Margaret was 26 at the time.) I do not know of any other Stewarts near them in Iowa or northern Kansas. There were other Stewarts near them in Cowley, but I do not know of any relationship between them. > > There was a Presbyterian minister names Rev John Dickey. There was a Presbyterian minister names Rev John Dickey. He was born 1807 in Chester Co, PA, died of typhoid 1855 buried New Bloomfield. PA. Joseph and Nancy had children (surnamed Stewart): Margaret (c1779-1851) married William Laird Eleanor (b c1781) married Joseph McCoy George (b c 1783) married Eleanor __ Elizabeth (b c1785) married W.W. > Bill Snyder > {I see dead people...And I'm always happy to see them! If you do too, > support Perry Historians!} I agree, support Perry Historians! I got a very nice letter from Jill Martin, a volunteer for the Perry Historians. I had written to inquire about the marriage of my ancestors Margaret Nelson and Joseph Stewart. Jill wrote: "The marriage of Margaret Nelson of Saville to a Mr. Steward of Juniata Co. was noted in the newspaper. The minister was Rev. John Dickey. He was a Presbyterian minister but we do not have the church records for his church." She enclosed a paper with the title MARRIAGES AND DEATHS REPORTED IN PERRY COUNTY NEWSPAPERS (1820-1870) at the top and highlighted the line with this info: Name Date Township Event Paper Edition Comment Nelson, Margaret 15 Nov 1842 Saville Wed-B DEMO 1 Dec 1842 m. Mr. Steward of Juniata County She also wrote "I checked the 1840 census and there is a James Nelson in Saville township. According to the Saville tax records James was deceased in 1846. There is no estate papers for him. He sold his land in 1841 in Perry Co. Deed Book H. p. 256. It notes that his wife was Martha McGowan. I don't know for sure that Margaret was his daughter but it is most likely." My questions: What church was Rev. John Dickey with? What newspaper would be abbreviated as DEMO? How can I determine if Margaret was in fact the daughter of James Nelson? Margaret & James named their first daugher Martha Ellen, and their first son George M. One census record lists George as George Mc. They named their second son Nelson, which is what got me thinking Nelson might be Margaret's maiden name, a fact confirmed when I finally found an obituary for her. Now I'm thinking George's middle name could very well be McGowan, and Martha Ellen could have been named for her maternal grandmother. I don't quite know where to go from here. any suggestions would be welcome. Lynn Stewart Visone

Good Day, I am in hopes that someone would be nice and help me out? I am in search of copies of two obits! Martha G. (Rutherford) Newman died in the year of 1938.....in search of an obit on her. I am so sorry I have no date...Month or day for her. Martha was married to John Newman ...John was to have died on June 26, 1915. Can someone help me obtain a copy of these two obits? Would be very grateful! Was told she died in Millerstown, Perry County as was her husband. Also any family out there ? Would like to hear from you as well ! Thank you Sincerely, Bea beair@acsworld.com

This Markle family would not be related to the Leslie Irving Markel (1899-1950) who moved to Idaho, would it? Thanks so much!!! Bill Snyder {I see dead people...And I'm always happy to see them! There is a Luke Marks in Greenwood in 1850 (pg 318) that has a daughter Juliana 12 and a daughter Rebecca 6. I had copied it while working on Markle which also seems to be a Greenwood twp name. I can scan the census page if you are interested. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mapman923@aol.com To: PAPERRY-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, August 03, 2004 8:42 PM Subject: [PA-Perry] Marks sisters I don't know but that this may be a Juniata County issue, but they seem to be in that gray area of Greenwood Twp. I have two sisters in my files: Rebecca and Julia Ann Marks. Rebecca was born in 1845 and married Joel Meiser (b. 1843, Snyder Co.; d. 1921). He is buried in Richfield. I have much more on Julia Ann (some histories have her as Julianne). She was born October 05, 1838 -- but I don't know where -- and died February 10, 1918. She married Samuel D. Zeiders and are both buried in Riverview Cemetery in Millerstown. I have tons of info on the Meiser family; I'm looking for more info on Rebecca and the Marks family. Even definite info that would tell me that I should look into Juniata County would be helpful. Thanks! Bill Snyder {I see dead people...And I'm always happy to see them! Gave birth to a son in 1974(Michael?) and then a daughter in 1976(Jennifer?). Some info I have might be wrong but the birth years are definitely correct. Adoption went through Northumberland County Services. Melody and her children deserve a chance to ask and answer questions. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated.
