Are the 1830 and 1840 censuses online somewhere??? Thanks for the lookup Scott.................Peggy
In the 1830 Tyrone, Perry, Pa census is a Nicholas Reem, but no daughters to fit your Mary's age. In the 1840 Tyrone, Perry, Pa census are Nicholas Rheam, George Rheam and John Rheam. Only George Rheam has daughters who would fit Mary's age . Try Ream, Reem, Rheem, and Rheam. Many of these people couldn't spell and their names were copied down phonetically by the census-takers. These censuses can be found at Ancestry.com.
Found no Reams in either the 1830 or 1840 census. Lots of Ream's in PA on both censuses but none in the county you specified. ----Scott -----Original Message----- From: Dan and Peg Engle [mailto:dbengle@pennswoods.net] Sent: Friday, December 03, 2004 8:59 PM To: PAPERRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PA-Perry] Ream Hello listers! Sandoe was born 3 Dec 1815 in Dauphin County, PA, son of Abraham Sandoe. WB was a traveling minister for the reformed churches. He married Nancy Alvord, dtr of George Alvord sometime around 1840. In 1841 WB Sandoe performed a marriage in Jackson Twp, Lebanon County PA Can't find him on the 1850 census although Nancy is incorrectly listed as living at home with George Alvord. In 1851 WB Sandoe performed a marriage in Liverpool Twp, Perry County PA, in 1852 he is on the tax roll, in 1853 I found another reference to another wedding. I didn't find WB and Nancy again until 1860 census in Ohio. They traveled around a bit more and by 1880 were in Butler Co., PA. By 1881 WB was a pastor at St. Paul's in Ringtown and according to a family bible, WB died in 1890 and was most likely buried in Ringtown, Adams Co, PA. Does anyone have any Sandoe's in Perry County? Does anyone know what reformed churches were in operation in Perry County between about 1840-1860 -- are there any parish transcripts? Any help or suggestions would be great.

The Newport Historical Area entails almost the entire Borough of Newport. That area includes from Fickes Lane to the Juniata River to Little Buffalo and up to parts of Sixth Street. I am not sure but I think that Wentzel's Mill was included. I was on the Boro Council at the time but I don't remember the exact boundary. I don't remember the reason, but parts of Sixth St. were not included. I thought this was a bad decision as the house on the corner of Caroline and Sixth Street was not included as well as a few others. The Perry Historians have a picture of soldiers camping in the yard of that house. Your father could research the boundries at the Boro office. It was all documented. The revitalization group wanted to have the downtown area declared Historical, but the gentlemen researching found so much information that they recommended the entire borough be declared Historical. myrt ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mapman923@aol.com> To: <PAPERRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 01, 2004 10:55 AM Subject: Re: [PA-Perry] Millerstown & Newport > <<I just read your message about having parts of Millerstown declared as > historical. > Do you have any details on the Newport Historical area? I just read your message about having parts of Millerstown declared as historical. You should contact Joan Williamson at the Council of the Arts on the square in Newport. Newport recently had almost the entire town declared historical. There were several people that came and researched the town. I don't remember their names. Joan Williamson or Susan Connell would remember. As far as starting an Historical Society for Millerstown, I think you would benefit by talking to the Perry County Historical Society. I don't know who is president now, but Resta Tressler has always been active. Donna I just received the Civil War Pension papers on Jonathon Peckard. (1828-1901) Although he seems to have been born in Cumberland county, and lived most of his life in Juniata county, his enlistment was credited to Madison Township, Cumberland county. If the Perry Historians would like a copy, I can e-mail the pages to them. There are 15 pages. Also, if anyone else has an interest in this family, I'd like to learn more about them. Barbara
