I also found newspaper clippings that stated that William SHOFF, the miller at Barnett's Mill had broke bones in his right leg on/near 23-Feb-1898. Also from a newspaper article: William SHOAFF of Centre Twp. last Saturday while chopping wood cut an ugly gash in his right knee. Another newspaper stated this: The cut was deep and left a 3 inch gash in his right foot near his instep. New Bloomfield Cemetery, Centre Twp., Perry Co., PA. His death was due to heart disease with which he had been afflicted for some time. The deceased was a son of Jacob SHOAFF and wife and was born in Saville Twp. 20-Sep-1841. He was wedded three times. His first wife was Elizabeth PALM of Saville Twp.. Three children were born to this union, one of whom, Maggie, survives, living in Allengheny, PA.. His second wife was Eliza YEAGER, who died 14-Jun-1898, without issue. His third wife, who was Florence PLANK, survives with three children: Robert, Nancy and Tillie. Mr. SHOAFF was a veteran of the Civil War having served in Co.G. 16th PA. Regiment of Cavalry, and was honorably discharged 11-Aug-1865, at Richmond, VA. after the close of the war. He was a miller by trade and had milled in a number of stands in the county, lastly at the old Clark mill. He was an honest and upright citizen and respected by all who knew him. The funeral was held at 10:30 o'clock this morning, Rev. E.C. KEBOCH officiating, followed by interment in the cemetery. >From Marriage Certificate: Wm. 2. In a message dated 5/29/02 11:30:54 PM, [email protected] writes: <<I am looking for any info on the parents and siblings of my great-great-great-grandmother, EMILY FLORENCE GRAY. RICE (son of Zachariah Rice and Nancy Landis), in PA, possibly in Landisburg, Perry County, PA (where Jesse was born and raised). According to the 1870 census, they lived in Poboyne Twp., PA; 1880 they lived in Landisburg, PA, and then in 1900 census they were in Berrien Co., Michigan. Every census showed Emily's parents were also born in PA. According to Emily's death record, her father's name was David Gray. I know the Gray part is right, but I'm not so sure about the first name being David. I looked at every David Gray in 1850 census (when Emily would have been abt. 2 yrs. old) and didn't find any that had a daughter named Emily (or Florence, as she was in 1870 census, but all over censuses said "Emily F"). Here is what I sent to somebody, apparently the wrong person, and I intended it to go to the list too but I have a new email program and I found I did not have it set up properly for 'Reply All" and it did not do what I intended. So I am now sending it to everyone on your cc list so we will all be on the same page. And apologies to anyone who has seen it before. I would only add that I am not really a RICE, and certainly not a MURPHY (I have none), researcher; I only have this on RICE because of my interest in LUPFER. 1 Henry Rice b: ca 1830 +Mary A. Lupfer b: ca 1882 There has got to be some connection - I would surmise that Emma Lupfer Murphy was named for Emma Rice Lupfer; perhaps she was a niece or something. I was going to say maybe she was a sister of these boys, that I don't know about, but that wouldn't give her the surname Murphy since she didn't live long enough to marry. I don't have any more on these boys than what is above. I do have the marriage date of Emma T. Rice and Henry Lupfer as 11 Oct 1876. Since this is a Rice/Murphy Bible you are working with, I would guess the baby's mother was Emma's sister , who married a Murphy, and she was named for her aunt, that would make sense wouldn't it? Unfortunately I have no information on Emma Rice's siblings, if any, nor any Murphys at all. I have LUPFER info back to the Flood more or less, lots of it; it is all on my website, below. 3. Hello Nikki and Marilyn, For what it's worth, I have data that might be relevant to your discussion: Zachariah Rice (1731-1811) & wife Maria Appolonia Hartman (1742-1790) had a daughter Susannah (b. 1772 in Pikeland Twp., Chester Co., Pa. & d. 1/12/1856 in Perry or Juniata Co.) Susannah married Johann Jacob Hench (b. 1/31/1761 & d. 1830 in Turbett Twp., then Mifflin & now Juniata Co.) I regret I show no siblings for Susannah Rice, so I cannot help you make a connection beween this earlier Rice family and your later Rice families. That pretty well exhausts what I have on the Rice surname that might prove to be interesting. On the other hand, I have an Elizabeth Rice ( dates and parents unknown) married in Juniata Co. on 1 Apr 1846 to Emanuel Wise, Jr. (4/1/1826-1/6/1880). Elizabeth died early in Juniata Co. without any known children. If either of you have any ancestry, progeny, or dates for my Elizabeth Rice, I would deeply appreciate hearing from you. Her husband, Emanuel Wise, Jr. is a Sulouff descendant and I am trying to fill in all the gaps I have. Best regards, Nelson R. On a personal note - I have highlighted all the Gray surname in "30 Perry County Cemetery Records" so you must be distantly related to either me or my husband who both have ancestors in Perry County. Lightening wiped out my computer recently and I lost a huge Family Tree maker file so can not check until I get it all reentered. I have Fenical/Fengel, Myers, and Shade in Perry. 3. Marilyn, I can help you and there is a book on www.genealogy.com that contains info about this couple. "Flickinger Family History" Here is what I have from the "Hench & Dromgold Reunion": William was born 18 September 1826 and married 22 December 1852 to Caroline Milligan. He was a farmer and merchant and lived in Bloomfield. I remember from the reading the Flickinger book that their children ere very successful and I am not certain but either William or one of his sons was a preacher. I will go dig out some notebooks and see what else I may have written down about the family-- Nikki PS-I don't know if you need it or not but I have alot on Zachariah and "Abigail" Hartman Rice-all very interesting. Surnames: GRAY, RICE, CURTIS, WILSON, STAVES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/odB.2ACI/419 Message Board Post: I am looking for any info on the parents and siblings of my great-great-great-grandmother, EMILY FLORENCE GRAY. She was born abt. 1848 in Pennsylvania. She died May 24, 1919 in Benton Harbor, Berrien County, Michigan. Bet. 1865 and 1868 she married JESSE T. If anyone can help or is connected to this line, please e-mail me at [email protected] Thank you! :-) Kelly Kahlau

It starts with the formation of the Co., It's officers and men, Mustering in and mustering out dates. It may take me a few days, but I will get you the info. If you would like to E-Mail me personally, that is OK. [email protected]

Surnames: Shoaff, Shoff Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/odB.2ACI/418 Message Board Post: I need to find some information on Jacob Shoaff and his wife Margaret ?. Jacob was born about 1800-1805 in what I believe to be Franklin County. In 1826 he purchased land in Toboyne township, Perry County. 1850 Census shows Jacob and Margaret to have nine children: Susannah, age 17, Matilda, age 13, Mary, age 12, William (my Ancestor) age 9, Elizabeth, age 8, George, Age 7, Catherine, age 5, Jacob, age 3, and Sarah, age 2. If anyone is tracing this family of Shoff's and has any information on any of the children and especially on the parents, Jacob and Margaret, I would appreciate the help. William Shoff that is my ancestor owned ? or operated ? Clark's Mill. This is not the Shoaff's of Shoaff's Mill fame. It has been very confusing researching my family because of the two families residing in Perry county at the same time. Can anyone help?

Surnames: Charles, Snyder Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/odB.2ACI/416 Message Board Post: I am looking for anyone who has found information on a Christian Charles who had at least two sons (Christian b: 1770 and George b: 1773) in Lancaster Co. or surrounding area. Also, anyone who knows anything about the Charles family when they lived in the Shippensberg area for a time. George and his brother Christian finally moved to Perry County (then Cumberland Co.). George married Catharine Snyder (daughter of Valentine and Saloma) and one of his children was David (b: 1799). David married a Mary ___, and he died in 1832. I can not find any trace of Mary. I assume she remarried. David and Mary Charles had two sons Benjamin F. and Daniel David who moved to Ohio. I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about this family.
