    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: OLIPHANT, REIFSNYDER, MECK, BLATTENBURGER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/odB.2ACI/463 Message Board Post: Still searching for the story on Peter Oliphant. Is anyone working with the family lines for Isaac Meck married to Susan Reifsnyder and Charlotte Reifsnyder married to Peter Oliphant; both families found in 1850 census for Liverpool? Peter is listed as a merchant. Susan and Charlotte Reifsnyder are reported as twins born December 13, 1807,and daughters of John Reifsnyder and Elizabeth Missiner or Missimer. Charlotte Reifsnyder Oliphant (died 1884) and, she and the Isaac & Susan Meck family are buried in Liverpool Cemetery, next to each other. Peter Oliphant is not buried there. Some possibility he is buried (died 1871) in Ottawa, Illinois. The Oliphant's and Meck's also appear nearly next door to each other in the 1850 census records in Liverpool. A few more clues have cropped up. I have been given the following information in H.H. Hain's History of Perry County 1922: William Oliphant Pg. 252 - Land in Greenwood Twp. in 1776 being bounded by land owned by William Olyphant. Peter Oliphant Pg. 983- Built a foundry in Liverpool Borough but it burnt down and was rebuilt by A.D. Vandling & Sons in 1865. Can anyone tell me anything more on the history of this foundry and its original owners? Does anyone have any further family leads on this Peter & Charlotte Oliphant or any story on these families in Liverpool through 1850-1880? Charlotte is without Peter in 1870 Liverpool Census. I find in Liverpool 1880 census, Charlotte Oliphant, age 78 has 2 grand daughters living with her, Ida Blattenburger, age 23 and Emma Blattenburger, age 18. So somewhere there was a daughter married to an Unknown Blattenburger. Many questions here. Why did Peter go to Illinois without Charlotte? Or did she go and come back? Who were Peter Oliphant's parents? Any information that will help me to connect and identfy these people on a family tree will be appreciated. Thanks, Virginia

Surnames: SHATTO, CHATEAU, SHADE, GARDNER, KITCH, TROUP, Classification: Bible Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/odB.2ACI/462 Message Board Post: The source for the following information was Barry Michie, who has kindly given his permission to post the information here. The information was received by Barry from someone who had purchased the records on eBay. ********************************************************* David was the son of Jean Nicholas Chateau, Jr., who immigrated as a young boy with his mother, Eva Maria Unknown, and father, Jean Nicholas Chateau, Sr., to Philadelphia 3 Sept 1739 on the Loyal Judith. The Chateau's were Hugenots who went to Germany; Jean Nicholas Chateau, Sr., eloped with a Catholic and came to PA. All their male children were baptized Protestant and most the girls Catholic ..... which says something about religious tolerance in colonial Pennsylvania. The David Shatto family has strong roots and presence in Cumberland, now Perry, and other PA counties. David Shatto was first married to his first cousin, Susan Shatto (c. 1783 - c. 1813 & d/o John Anthony Chateau & Susannah Shade), by whom the first three children were born. It is probable that these children were born in what is now Perry Co. He was married secondly to Julianna Gardner (5 Sep 1798 Cumberland Co PA - 19 May 1865 Juniata Twp. Perry Co PA & d/o William Gardner, Jr. & Catherine Kitch), by whom the last nine children were born. All these children were born in Perry Co. Julianna remarried to the widower, Peter Troup, and is buried in Koch's Sulphur Springs Christian Church yard, Juniata Twp., Perry Co. PA which is now in Little Buffalo State Park. Her tombstone reads: OUR MOTHER / In Memory of / Julia A. Troup / Wife of / David Shatto / Who Died / May 19, 1865 / Aged 66 Yrs, 8 m. / & 14 days / Blessed are the dead who die / in the Lord. Here is the family record, recorded in a Meditation and Prayer book Title Page "Betrachtungen u. Gebete oder Gedanken und Unterhaltungen des Frommen mit Gott Thess. 5.17. "Betet ohne Unterlafs Erfter Theil. Don J.C.Guldin Gedruckt, der Johann Ritter, Readin, Penn. 1826" This translates roughly as: Meditations and Prayers or Thoughts and Explanations of those Devout with God Thess: 5.17 "Pray without Cease" First Part Don J.C. Guldin Printed by Johann Ritter, Reading, Penn. 1826 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the inside cover and fly leaf is the following, appearing as if someone is practicing the spelling and writing of a name "July Shatto" "Julyanna Shatto" "Julia" [in ink] followed by what looks like "mater" in extremely faint pencil and then in heavier pencil "Shatto" then a signature, "D.H. Shatto" who was one of the children. In the center of the book under "Familien Register" are the following entries. All the entries are written in the same block letters, however "David Shatto Sr." on the bottom of pages 1 & 3 is in cursive and appears to be a signature.. All the entries of the children are in black ink but for the last child, Sarah Ellen's, which is in red. You will notice that Sarah Ellen was born 24 days after the death of her father, David, by smallpox. All the printing is in the same hand and block style, so it definitely was not written by David --- perhaps by Julianna or one of the children. Interestingly, neither birth records of David's two wives nor the death record of his first are included. Here it is verbatim (within quotation marks) with no notes, interjections as it appears on the family pages in the center of the book ... all punctuation, spelling & parantheses are as the original. p. 1 Under "Geburten." "Mary. Shatto was born January 17th in the year of our Lord (1810) Elisabeth. Shatto was born May 17th in the year of our Lord. 1811 Susannah. Shatto was born December 25 in the year of our Lord (1812) David Shatto Sr " p. 2. Under "Geburten" "William. Shatto. was born November 17th in the year of our Lord (1815) David. 3. Dear Marcia, The 1820 census show that the Bowmans were plentiful in the Halifax and Dauphin area. There was Abraham, George, Jacob, John and Sarah. The Perry Historians checked all their early church records for Dauphin County but did not find a John Bowman born 12 Mar 1813. They did not have access to Dauphin County census before 1850. The Historical Society of Dauphin County do not carry census records.
