I think historically ( although I could be wrong) "black" did not mean the same as today. They would have said negro or colored. I believe that the term 'black' was either black-Irish or blackfeet as in Indian, and I am not sure that the black feet tribe were in the area. 'black' as a reference for Africa-American is a fairly recent term. Court records, census data, death records all evidence Catharine is the name of Henry Walt's wife in Liverpool, PA. Rebecca Borrell age 17 was living in the Henry Walt household in 1850 Census. Rebecca could have been a sister to Catharine. Catharine appears to have been born about 1820 according to census data calculation. Catharine Borell Walt appears to have remarried between 1861 and 1865 to an Unknown WALLIS. She shows up in 1870 Liverpool census as Catharine WALLIS. There were Borell/Borrell families in Perry Co and Dalmatia, Northumberland County, not far across the Susquehanna River from Liverpool, PA around this same time. Peter Borrell family is in 1860 Census for Dalmatia, Northumberland Co. Does anyone had any further documentation of the following that might place Catharine Borrell? Hello Colette, The Tressler Orphans Home, which traced its history back to 1868 when it began caring for Civil War orphans, closed the orphanage in the 1950's and continued various other modes of social service. In the 1970's the organization became Tressler Lutheran Services and two years ago they merged with another group to become Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries. Looking for any connections. My gggrandparents were William A. & Mary Louise Price Fry. They had 3 children that lived. Hannah Belle Fry Sheaffer ( moved to Ks. 1880 ?)
