    1. [PA-Perry] HENRY LONG/JOHN LONG
    2. Naomi Long Hopperstad
    3. Hi, I am back on the list after an absence of several weeks, during which time I changed ISPs. I still am researching my Henry LONG of (Eshcol) Perry Co., PA, as well as many of the other early Henry Longs in south central PA who may or may not be related to me. I have a theory that John/Johannes Long/Lang (wife, Maria Catherina STRAUSS) very possibly could have been a brother to "my" Henry. A preponderance of the evidence certainly suggests that the Henry Long whose will was proven 25 May 1795 in York Co., PA (Paradise Township) was the father of my Henry Long who married Catherina UTZ. There are cousins who dispute this conclusion, insisting that Johannes Lang had to have been the father of our Henry. Their late uncle had it "written down" that John Long was our Henry's father ... and this conclusion apparently had been arrived at after the uncle had talked with many relatives. Therefore, it virtually was/is indisputable. I was informed that baptismal records for St. Michael's Church, Pfoutz Valley, Perry Co., PA show that Henry, son of John Long, was born a good 20 years after the birth of "our" Henry, born 1764. I CANNOT seem to access these baptismal records online ... and am not clear as to where I might write to obtain them. Can someone help? (Please?) Thanks ... Naomi Long Hopperstad ([email protected], nowadays!) P.S. Strassburger's passenger lists show three Langs, Felix, Johann, and Heinrich, were (Palatinate) passengers to America on the Billinder London from London, arriving Philadelphia, 10 Jan. 1739. That's just ONE of the reasons why I speculate that John and Henry were brothers. They both ended up in Perry Co., PA, and their father or fathers have yet to be identified. Felix Lang/Long may have been the Felix Long who migrated south to ... I think it was South Carolina?

    2. Duncannon has three cemeteries... There is a Union Cemetery, an Evergreen Cemetery, and a newer one called Duncannon Cemetery, also known as Hill Cemetery. My best bet would be that the Union Cemetery is also the Lutheran Cemetery, because I have located people in the cemetery myself and they were listed as being buried in the "Union Lutheran Cemetery". Hope this is of some help. Karl Fox

    3. Hi Donna, Petersburg is now Duncannon. Unfortunately the Perry County GenWeb archives does not show a Lutheran Cemetery there, and your Andrew Walker doesn't show up in the Union Cemetery. Perhaps he's in one of the other cemeteries in the archives. 1. Re: [PA-Perry] Re: Need help identifying Lutheran cemetery in Petersburg
    2. Hi Donna, From the book, History of Perry Co. PA; Hain: "The present town of Duncannon was long known as Petersburg (being incorporated as Petersburg Borough in 1844), and the adjoining village of Lower Duncannon, lying between Juniata and Sherman's Creek, was known as Duncannon. Petersburg only extended to Ann Stret, Dr. Ebert owning the field lying north of that. The original borough only extended from Juniata Creek to an alley, where the present electric light plant is locaed but in 1900 it was extended to include the western end, which had been known as Baskinville and the Carver's Hill section, both of which bear the name of pioneers." "In 1865 the name was changed to Duncannon..." Hope that helps some, Cathy

    3. Hi Tracy, I know of two ways you can get there. Going N. from Harrisburg on 11/15 into Duncannon. Go West on 274 about 6-7 miles where you will intersect 34 where you will turn right which takes you into New Bloomfield. Definately NOT a big town. My brother is the prison warden and lives in New Bloomfield where the Perry Co. Prison is. The other way is to go N on 22 and exit at the Newport exit. Go left on 34 and follow the signs into New Bloomfield. If your coming N from Harrisburg, the Duncannon route is the shorter way. You might want to check out the map on www.mapquest.com .
