    3. No one has mentioned that there were Quaker meetings in Columbia County...in that part of Columbia that is adjacent to Schuylkill & Northumberland Cos. Roaring Creek area had a Quaker meeting. I have gr-gr grandfather (Simon Light) who was from Wheatfield Twp., Perry Co. Around 1845 he went to Dauphin Co. and by 1850 was in Schuylkill Co. He is considered to be the founder around 1852 of what was a UB Church in Valley View. The UB's united at some point with the United Methodists. "His" church is now St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Valley View. He got his early UB training in Perry Co. Some family members belonged to Snyder's Church in Perry Co. In some instances I noticed the the term "meeting" was used. But in my opinion this was not meant to be a Quaker meeting. I have never been able to find any Quaker meeting connection for Simon Light. The UB"s tended to have what were called "camp meetings". These were held usually outdoors in the summer. Some are still in existence. Perhaps this will help give you a different perspective on your searching. Peggy Lyte Tyrrell Searching Light, Lickal, Dickel, Hoffman, Westfall, Ulsh, Allison in Perry Co. 2. Although the Swarthmore Meeting House may be a little far from Juniata or Perry County, it is my understanding that it is a fairly large group which has been in existence for a long time (I believe William Penn was directly affiliated with them), is still active and is affilated with Swarthmore College. Therefore, I thought they may have the resources to answer the question you posed in your original email. The other emails which have been sent in response to yours have mentioned other Quaker groups. I do not know their proximity to Juniata or Perry Counties -- they may very well be closer. However, I grew up in Pennsylvania and the Swarthmore group was the only group of which I had ever heard, at least in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Good luck.

    2. I am looking at the Bible of a g+aunt whose husband (at least) was a member of the Dunkard Church. Many early 18th century Pennsylvanians, esp with ties to Philadelphia, were associated with this very conservative denomination... 3. There were Quakers in Northumberland County, PA, across the river from Perry County. Here is an interesting web site AN HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL RECORD OF THE QUAKERS IN NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AND WHAT BEFELL THEM http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nungesser/John/ElizaDiary/Diary .html I believe this may have been the neighborhood of Shamokin. I 've seen some references to the Quakers in Cumberland County but I can't find it right now. Will keep looking. There were meeting houses closer than Chester County and Lancaster County and Phila. There were Irish Quakers in this area, in the time frame that would be relevant. Hope this helps.
