I have the following Smalec's listed on the 1930 US Census for Northumberland County, Coal Township. I can give you more specifics on the village they lived in if you like. My family also lived in the same area for many years. Interestingly, the US Census states "SMALEC" but, my family always knew them as "SMALLETS". John Smalec, Head, 48 yrs old, married. Barbara, wife, 36 yrs old Children: Catherine (14), Melia (11), Anna (9), John (7), Michael (5) and Dora (2). All the children were born in Pennsylvania. Both parents were born in Poland. Her grandfather was Seman Smalec, born August 2, 1874. He was known as Simeon Smalec after he immigrated in 1899 to Shamokin. He first lived with his brother Walter in 1900, then married Catherine Worhacz in 1903. After that the name was spelled various ways (Smolits, Smaletz, Smallets). Walter (Vasil) and Seman had a brother, Theodore, who immigrated in 1908. Many families from Florynka came through Cohoes New York where they lived in a boarding house and worked in the textile mills or foundries. I'd like to know your Smalec background. I'm certain the families are related. Meanwhile, I've attched some photos of Florynka taken when my eife visited in 2000. ==== PANORTHU Mailing List ==== Please visit and make suggestions to enhance the Northumberland County, PA GenWeb site located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~panorthu/
