I think I already know the answer to this but, figured it was best to be sure. Is there a Shamokin Historical Society? Or is just included in the Northumberland County Historical Society in Sunbury? There was an article in the Shamokin newspaper during the Centennial about my Ggg-grandfather who served in the Civil War. According to the article, the lead bullet that he was injured with and several documents from the war were going to be on display during the Centennial in Welker's Cigar Store on Shamokin St. Some family members believe the items were donated to someone/some place after the Centennial festivities were over. I'm hoping that the historical society, or maybe just some local history buff, can help me find out what happend to these items. Thanks! Heather Sharp-Makal
Hello Heather, It has been along time since we have communicated. How are you doing? I was up to Catawissa over the holidays but only for a few days. I have been so busy at work that I have not had much time to do a lot of research, especially on the Fryberger line. I still owe you a copy of the deed information that I have. I will send it along to you. I also have heard about the display of the bullet and other materials for the Centennial but I never really got a change to research it any further. Hope someone answers your query. I believe at one time there was mention of starting a Historical Society in Shamokin. Someone from Elysburg was trying to get it started but I never heard any more about it. Take Care and please keep in touch. Genealogy is not only the study of ones family but the sharing of information with others.
