Would you have known any of my ancestors? My mother was born in the gap - Elizabeth (Bettie) McLaughlin in 1934. Her older sister, Mary, was also born there. Their father, Eugene (Boner) McLaughlin was apparently a rich man when Mary was born but was desitute when my mother came along. He left his family, Lena (Scheuren) McLaughlin, Mary McLaughlin, and Bettie McLaughlin with almost nothing. Lena's parents were Joe Scheuren and Catherine (Kate) (Bosche) Scheuren. Allegedly the colliery whistle was named "Big Joe" because my great grandfather was the only man in town tall enough to pull the handle.
