http://www.northumberlandco.org/tourism.html This link says that Mt. Carmel was the first town in the world to have electric street lights. Sounds like my grandfather knew whereof he spoke. It mentions the lighting of the hotel in Sunbury 1883, renamed the "Edison Hotel". So I wonder when Mt. Carmel had its street lights installed and operating? My guess would be no earlier than 1888, when my grandfather was age 14. The story is that as a young man he worked with Thomas Edison doing the Mt. Carmel street lights. Interesting, too, that the Mt. Carmel power plant was at 4th and Maple Streets. I had an aunt who lived on the block of Maple between 3rd and 4th Sts., but I can't picture the corner with the power plant way back before 1940, but I was young. Take care, Elida of Dixie
