Meiser Jr., 84, passed away Wednesday, June 22, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn Meiser Deans and her husband, John. Born in Stonington on Jan. 27, 1921, he was a son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Sallie M. (Bahner) Meiser. Educated in Shamokin Township and Snydertown Borough elementary schools, he attended Sunbury High School, graduating with the Class of 1938. He subsequently received a bachelor of science degree in dairy science from the Pennsylvania State University in 1943. Following enlistment in the U.S. Army during World War II, he saw combat duty with the U.S. 9th Army in Europe. Returning to civilian life, he was awarded an industrial research fellowship at the Pennsylvania State University, which enabled him to obtain a doctorate degree in 1948. On June 12, 1948, he married the former Sarah A. Roadarmel, daughter of William A. Roadarmel and Lottie Hocking Williams of Elysburg. Two daughters, JoAnn Meiser Deans and the late Diane M. Meiser, and one son, John Addison Meiser, were born to this marriage. Following an eight-year appointment at Michigan State University as an assistant professor in teaching and research, Dr. Meiser accepted the position of plant manager of Twin Pines Dairy Inc. in Detroit, Mich., in 1956. He was subsequently elevated to president and general manager of the multi-million dollar corporation. On Sept. 3, 1973, he joined the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. In the ensuing years, he served as program director of the Central Milk Testing Laboratory, Dairy Commodity Leader, associate director of Milk Industry branch, associate director of Farm Products Quality branch and director of Dairy Inspection branch. Dr. Meiser served in every phase of the dairy industry — farming, education, research, processing and government — and filled hundreds of speaking engagements before civic and industry groups throughout Canada and the U.S. He is a life member of two National Agricultural Honor Societies, Central Pennsylvania Genealogical Pioneers and the Northumberland County Historical Society. In January 1986, he retired and devoted full time to his favorite hobby, genealogy. In the ensuing years, he and his late wife, Ann, published more than 50 books pertaining to individual family histories and cemetery records of Northumberland and surrounding counties. Copies of their publications number in the thousands and appear in every major genealogical library throughout the U.S. Surviving are his daughter, JoAnn Meiser Deans and her husband, John, and their children J.J. and his wife Michelle, and Patrick; a son, John Addison Meiser and his wife, Jane, and their children, Jennifer and David. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14752372&BRD=2311&PAG=461&dept_id=482258&rfi=6 +------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + As featured in the on-line version of The News Item. + Web Address: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?brd=2311 +------------------------------------------------------------------------+ --WebTV-Mail-31591-112--
