The immigrant, George Adam GEISS (1725-1784), was born to Heinrich Adam and Anna Catharina GEISS of Freisbach, Saarland, Germany. Family tradition holds they were French Protestants who fled eastward into the German Palatinate to escape religious persecution in France. They followed the Lutheran rather than the Reformed interpretations and practices. I am trying toconnect him to my Dietrichs. I do not have the Dietrich surname in my files and am unable to help you with a Dietrich connection. I either tie into George Adam OR Phillip. reasons to believe, are the Keiss, that are in Klingers church, here. the Geiss,s also married in to the klingers, Among KLINGER-GEISS marriages I have sister and brother marrying brother and sister as follows: Alexander KLINGER b. 6/23/1726 Pfaffen-Beerfurth, Odenwald, Germany, d. 4/25/1802 Reading, Pa., married 2/14/1748 in Reichelsheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany to Anna Elizabeth GEISS b. 10/30/1727 Gross-Gumpen, Germany. Both are buried at Trinity Lutheran, Reading, Pa. and Anna Barbara KLINGER b. 1/5/1729 Reichelsheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, married 2/27/1748 Hesse Darmstadt to Johannes GEISS b. 1724 (no children on record for this couple) I descend from a brother of Alexander and Anna Barbara KLINGER, Johann Philipp Klinger (1723-1811), by his second wife, Eva Elizabeth Beilstein (1730-about 1815). They are my 5th great grandparents. Johann Philipp was born in Pfaffen-Beerfurth, Odenwald, Germany. Eva Elizabeth was born in Brandau, Germany. They both died in Lykens Twp., Dauphin Co. and are buried in Klinger's Church Cemetery at Erdman, Dauphin Co. Pa. so trying to unravel. Leonard Dietrich, the immigrant, also lived in Bern Twp. Berks co. moved up here in 1786. their children, baptised at Klingers. one of thioer children was named phillip. there was a John Adam Swartz, wife Rosina, who had many children baptised there, and had my Dietrichs and geiss,s as sponsors. I think Leonards son John, my line was married to a Barbara Geiss ( spelled Keiss, back then) she also had a sister anna Maria, and Elizabeth who married George Peter trountman/ also a brother John and Henry, at Klingers church as well!! sound familiar??? Samuel geiss, married my Hannah Bowman as well, !!! any thoughts??? Bill Samuel GEISS and Hannah BOWMAN are my 3rd great grandparents. Samuel was born 4/15/1792 in Berks Co. to Heinrich Adam GEISS and died 9/24/1876 in Kratzerville, Snyder Co. Hannah was born 3/26/1793 in Berks Co. to Jacob Bauman and Susanna Bruck, and she died in Monroe Twp., Snyder Co. Both are buried in the Kratzerville Cemetery. Hope this helps. Nelson R. Sulouff

Bill, I am transferring my response from the Northumberland Co. ListServ to the GEISE ListServ because I feel our discussion has become too specific to continue posting on the Northumberland Co. ListServ. I am descended from immigrant George Adam GEISS as follows: George Adam GEISS (1725-1784) Heinrich Adam GEISE b. 1764 Samuel GEISE (1792-1876) Henry GEISE (1818-1900) Samuel Brouse GEISE (1848-1907) Dora Edna GEISE (1879-1939) William Raymond SULOUFF (1903-1993) Nelson Raymond SULOUFF (1929- ) You ask for the names I have for children of my immigrant GEISS. Since I cannot send an attachment to you via the ListServ, I will send you a personal message with an attached Word file containing the first three generations of his descendants as held in my records.
