Hello Merle, The correct spelling is Mahantango. It is the name of a creek system that flows along the northern side of Mahantango Mountain, beginning in Schuylkill Co. east of Klingerstown and flowing generally west-southwestward to form the line between Dauphin & Northumberland Counties, finally emptying into the Susquehanna R. near Millerstown. The Pennsylvania Line, 4th ed. (1990) shows there is today an Upper Mahantango Township in Schuylkill Co., formed in 1811. A USGS GNIS map search for Mahantango as a "populated place" shows there is a very small village by that name on the west side of the Susquehanna R., about 6 miles north of Liverpool, at the intersection of Old Trail Road and St. Paul Road. I think that would put it in Susquehanna Twp., Juniata Co. rather than in Liverpool Twp., Perry Co. Nelson R. I find this twp. in the 1790 to 1810 censuses, but not later censuses on ancestry.com. Can someone tell me if this twp. is simply not listed on ancestry or if this twp. was incorporated or whatever? Help! Also, if anyone connects to the Stroup family, please contact me off the list. Thanks in advance. Merle
