My ancestor John Hamersly was born in Northumberland County in 1761; his brother Andrew born there in 1760, and other brothers were Isaac, Gordon, Arrahan-Abraham-Abram?, and James. John served in Capt John Doyle's Company of the 6th PA in May 1780, also drew Depreciation Pay as a member of the 6th PA. Could Jacob Hamersley who was in the service of Provence of Pennsylvania in Capt. James Patterson Co., at Fort Augusta on June 25, 1757 be their father? ... or Jacob Hammersley, 1st batallion of PA regulars, foot soldiers, date of enlistment 31 May 1760, discharge dated 31 May 1764?
