She worked in a silk mill and Andrew was a watchman in that mill. My wife has a centenniel book (1868-1968) for the Archdiocese of Harrisburg that has a short history of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Your Andrew Bardar is mentioned as one of the Slovak men who met in St Stanislaus Hall on November 2, 1891 and formed the "Catholic Church Society of the Assumption." The did a survey of Shamokin and found 94 Slovak families. In 1892 they bought land at the corner of Cherry and Clay Streets and in October of that year asked for permission from the bishop to establish a separate parish for the Slovak-speaking people of Shamokin. The first Mass was held in the church on February 2, 1893. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
