I wrote this its in paper now as of mid night my mothers obituary August 3, 2011 Shirley Mae Shultz, 74, Sunbury The Daily Item Wed Aug 03, 2011, 09:49 PM EDT SUNBURY — Shirley Mae Shultz, 74, of 227 S. Awl St., passed away at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, in hospice care at Sunbury Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1937, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late John P. and Alma L. (Osman) Shultz. As a child, she lived in the house she was born in at 209 N. Fourth St., Sunbury, and in her teen years, she lived at 316 N. Fourth St., Sunbury. As a girl, she hung out with her siblings on the playgrounds playing baseball where she met her husband of 34 years. In high school, she played basketball. She also loved to roller skate. One of her first jobs was baby sitting and working as a soda jerk at Rea & Derick Drug Store on Market Street, Sunbury. She spent the summer of 1953 picking tobacco at Camp Johnson in Connecticut. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Sunbury High School. She married in Sunbury on July 6, 1954. She worked at the silk mill in Sunbury and the bobby pin factory. In the 1970s, she worked as a short-order cook at the flea market, Brumbaughs. In the 1980s, she was a housekeeper and cook for the late Dr. James Landau. of Sunbury, living with him until he died, and then she took care of Eva Arbogast. Shirley loved animals and could not turn away a stray kitten. She loved cooking, often whipping up a pan of Hershey cocoa fudge or a pot of chicken pot pie. She liked to sew, making tops and blouses. She loved Bible study and discussing it with others and loved to write and sing with her sisters. She loved doing genealogy and enjoyed researching all sorts of topics. She taught herself how to use a computer and kept in touch with relatives and friends over the Internet. Shirley was associated with the Northumberland Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Shirley is survived by her children and grandchildren, Jeanie Stout and husband John, of Moravian Falls, N.C., Charles Bruce and wife Barb, of Sunbury, Julie Swank, of Cockeyville, Md., Janie Bauman and husband Charles, of Nescopek, and Mike and wife Lisa, of Schuylkill Haven; grandchildren, Charles Bauman, Kari Bostian and Benjamin Bostian; siblings, Janette Colligan and husband Les, of Las Vegas, Nev., Doris Rossiter and husband Charles Bruce, of Spring Hill, Fla., John H. Shultz. of Jersey Town, Jane Reinard, of Sunbury, Elaine Stettler and husband Jerry, of Sunbury, and Deborah Spegelmeyer and husband Carl, of Greenville; and nephews and nieces, George Thurston, Richard Thurston, Karen R. Harper, Sherry S. Barnhart, John Shultz, Alma S. Bollinger, Jill S. Williams, Jack Shultz, Connie S. Rute, Barry Shultz, Jeffery Shultz, Jodie S. Bowers, Gregory Shultz, Vincent Reinard, Rhonda Reinard, Wayne Stettler, Brad Stettler, Chad Stettler and Anthony Joseph Bonaventura . She was preceded in death by one son, Richard J. Bostian Jr., in 1960; one brother, Ronald N Shultz, in 2009; and two nephews, Robert Thurston, in 2009, and Glenn Reinard, in 1987. Friends will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by a memorial service at 7.
