Author: DellKasuk Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.northumberland/3013.2.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As I mentioned, I have no reason to research the family of Gene Krupa any further. Back in 1998/1999 I was doing it as a favor for a music professor Dennis Brown. I am a volunteer for a Polish Genealogical Society in Chicago and back in 1999 there wasn't very much genealogical information online. I was traveling to the National Archives here in Chicago as well as to Washington, D.C. researching my family and to reply to the many queries received at the PGSA. With so much on the internet it's no longer necessary to leave my desk....and today I can complete the research in a week compared to the months it took 12 years ago. My husband's niece is married to a Krupa but he has told me that he is not related to Gene Krupa. If you would like to see the area where Gene Krupa and his family lived....there is a small booklet"Images of America - Chicago's Southeast Side" by Rod Sellers abd Dominic A. Pacyga. It has a photo of Commercial Ave., where I'm sure all of Gene's family shopped. Also a photo of Immaculate Conception Church. Good Luck with your research..... Author: garykrupa46 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.northumberland/3013.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for your prompt reply. Gene Krupa and my grandfather are first cousins. His father, Bart and my great-grandfather, Frank, were brothers. They were born in 1862 and 1863 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1876. Since they were 13 and 14 years of age, I would assume that they traveled with an adult. They ultimately settled in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, where Frank worked in the coal mines. In 1916 my branch of the Krupa's moved to Detroit. I believe that my grandmother's (ne: Besterci) family have already located there. I have no idea how or why Bart settled in Chicago. So, this is the puzzle that I'm working on and I find it to be fun. I am a school teacher who is off for the summer, so I have some time to enjoy myself. In 1980, my maternal great-grand-mother's family (Centala) publishe a bokk entitled: The Centala Family In POland and America." There is a 20 page index of various Polish surnames with cross-refernces. This family is in the Mtz, Alpena, Rogers City area of Michigan. If this would be of interest to you, let me know and I will send details. Gary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: DellKasuk Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.northumberland/3013.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Back in 1998/1999 I replied to a message posted by a Dennis Brown who was a professor at a university out east. He was researching Gene Krupa, the drummer. I was born and lived in South Chicago, in the immediate area where Gene Krupa and his family lived and attended church. I did not know Gene Krupa or his family; I knew of him because my Dad would always point out to me a house where Gene Krupa and his family lived. I also knew Gene Krupa and his family were buried in the same cemetery as my family. I replied to Dennis Brown telling him what I just told you. I did some research and sent it to Dennis Brown along with photos I took of Gene Krupa's grave. About six months after I sent the pictures to Dennis Brown I found them posted on Find-A-Grave. I sent Dennis Brown all of the information I found on Gene Krupa and closed my files since I had no immediate interest in him or his family. I continue to be involved in genealogy, mainly Polish genealogy. I am a volunteer with the Polish Genealogical Society of America; I assist with replying to the many letters and e-mail received each week. If you are interested in Gene Krupa, the drummer I would suggest you type his name in the search box on the opening page of Ancestry....there are several relatives who have posted.
