My dad owned the market next door from 1956-1972. He was Chester Carl. Frances and Jacob Leisinring were next door neighbors, I have very fond memories, Frances was also a teacher of mine. Do you know anywhere I can research history on the stone home online? Pictures? Also if you would know any history on the market I would also love to research that. I have many memories of growing up in Bear Gap. Thanks for any help. Brenda Carl-Ferry. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: sdbutkie Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.northumberland/9924.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great, great-grandparents were Richard T. and Maryann (nee Davies) Price and immigrated from Cardiff, Wales in 1864. They first settled in Donaldson (Schuylkill Couty) then came to Shamokin in 1873 and were members of the Welsh Congregational Church. They had 13 children and one of them (my great-grandfather Richard H. Price) was the organist in the church for many years. Wales is such a small country and because they settled in the same community, I'd guess that they are somehow related. Author: ArmentGen Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.northumberland/9959.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Well, as far as I can tell, David probably comes from the Davis/David & Deborah (Pollock) Barber said to have lived in Point Twp in Northumberland in the 18th century. Not really from them, but a son of theirs. There's a John that lived up in that area as well. But nothing conclusive to say either way. That's what I'm leaning towards anyway. Mary's father was William. I have a background story about one of their sons or grandsons that gave info about the ancestry of Mary and it says who her father was. So we know that much. Kinda hard to pinpoint where William comes from. I have a few possibilities though. How far back have you gotten with either side of the family, David & Mary? I'll try to help out as much as I can. What I have is limited though. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. As for the burial location for David Barber and Mary Jones, all indications are that they are buried in Harmony Cemetery, I even checked with the sexton's office when I was there researching 26 years ago, but there were no records of it. There are two different cemeteries there, but as far as I could tell only one is Harmony(I checked both). There are very old markers in the old section of Harmony that are unreadable. He married Dorothy Hall in 1787 and had several children, one of whom was my GGgrandfather Thomas. The others were Ann, Mary, Dorothy, William, Margaret, Catharine. However, had he also earlier (1770) married Ann Hall (children William, Ann, Thomas, John, Henry) or is it all a big coincidence of names? If anyone knows more, I am glad of any input.
