Carmel in Beaverdale; it is connected to Our Lady's Catholic Church on Market Street in Mt. Carmel - they have the information on plots, etc. What are the last names of people you are researching? I have many relatives buried there. You can contact the rectory at Our Lady's; they may be able to help you. You can also contact the Diocese of Harrisburg Archive Dept. they will do searches for Baptisms and Marriages (for a fee) - check their website. Hi List, On the U.S. Genweb site for Northumberland County, there is a link to "Sunbury Daily Item On line" but when I click into it, all I get is late obituaries. I thought at one time I could get an index to obits from many years back. Am I doing something wrong or are those late date obits all there is. Any help would be appreciated. Does anyone know- is it an active cemetery? Is it connected to a specific parish? What condition is it in? Does anyone have contact information where I could inquire about plot locations? Ideally, I am hoping to get photos of the stones and/or plots. I live out of state but want to make a visit next year. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You are probably right that the tavern was probably down the hill on the left, Leisinrings lumber mill was also down that road. The building on the corner of Bear Gap rd, and 54 was a store. My dad owned and operated it from 1956-72. He then sold it to the Romanoski family from the Shamokin area. I believe it was also a post office at one time. I always loved the big stone house, (Leisinring home) and would love to see the inside of it today. I remember as a child, visiting the home down in the watershed that you believe was the tavern. If memory serves me correctly, my dad got an old buffet that the owner in the late 60's or early seventies was going to throw out, and restored it. I do not recall the name of the people that owned the home (tavern) at that time. If you know anywhere I can get the history on the stone home or store, I would appreciate it. A picture can be found here spiritsocietyofpa.com/sspl.html ( half way down, left hand column) let me know if this is the building you remember as being the tavern. When I first started looking for the tavern I thought it was the building at the corner of rt. 54 and Bear Gap rd., that building looks as if it had a market. The building on the water co. property is situated in a stand of pine trees, it doesn't look like there had been any type of market near it, but maybe the water co. removed it. I have some info on the tavern, basically when it was built and the owners up to my ggg grandfather, Peter S Yeager, who died in 1871. Ihave no info on the tavern after his death. If you provide your email address, I'll send you that info. Regards, Jeff Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
