One looks fairly promising. He was born 27 Apr 1889 to Francis Kerstetter and Sarah Henninger in Northumberland County. On his 1917 WWI draft registration he says he has a wife and is living in Calumet County, Wisconsin. After that I don't see him in the US and Canadian census is only published up until 1911. Hoch, run later by his son Elmer, then run by Elmer's son Bill (Bill's brother Ed is my grandfather), although my grandfather - and other assorted family members - worked there part time til he joined the army in 43. The restaurant was first located at 112-114 Front Street, then moved to 50 Front Street probably within a decade, where it stayed until just after the 72 flood when the building was torn down due to water damage. My grandfather's other brother John was one of the founding sponsors of the Teen Canteen (precursor to the Y Teen Center), which was located above the restaurant. He taught at Milton High School in the 30s & 40s and later taught at Bloomsburg University. I imagine you're probably just several years older than my mother, Cindy Hoch, who graduated from Milton High School in 65. I do have a little more information about these specific accidents. Source: 1890 Annual Report of the Inspections of Mines of the Anthracite & Bituminous Coal Regions of Pennsylvania Library Call No. TN805.04 A29, page 257 1890Aug20, Oliver Erdman, occupation car loader, Burnside colliery, Northumberland county, head injured and finger mashed; a brick fell from breaker and struck him on head, knocking him down between the cars by which his hand was caught and crushed. He missed at least 60 days of work. Large university and public libraries, the Pennsylvania Geological Survey Library, or the State Library of Pennsylvania may have the reference reports. The books are usually under library Call No. TN805.04 A29. These reports may also cover strikes, details of mining operations at specific mines, location of the mines, pictures, production and operation details for specific mines. See the web site below. In the State of Pennsylvania, the reports locations are listed on the web sites: http://www.dep.state.pa.us/dep/deputate/minres/bmr/historicalminingreports/years/reports1873.htm but change the year of the report (1873 in the web site noted here) in place of the question marks. All of the anthracite Pennsylvania Department of Mines Inspector reports are posted on the web site (lower right side of web site): http://www.oldforgecoalmine.com/Anthracite Archives.html "Anthracite Archives - Old Forge Coal" However some of the later years, only have a partial posting. This is all the information that I have on this accident. >From Jerry, http://www.genealogy.com/users/s/h/e/Jerry-Sherard/ "Mine Accidents U.S., Canada and Australia" Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [PANORTHU] it's a very thick binder at the Milton library
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: sjkern3 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.northumberland/10020.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I was there last week and asked the same question. No modern database for Harmony. At the library they have a binder that has a list of everyone buried before 2000 and their plot numbers, and it's several inches thick. The librarian said even that isn't completely accurate (for example, she said, her grandmother isn't listed and she is buried there), but it is alphabetical at least. :) I asked if there was a plot map (since the cemetery is HUGE and I've got about a dozen different graves I would like to specifically locate), and she said no, that the Milton borough office is in charge of Harmony but they have even less info than the library; in fact if we stopped by their office they would send us right back to the library. Frustrating. And surprising I thought, for such a - like I said - HUGE cemetery. I'm tempted to offer to formulate a database myself - my mom's entire family has lived in the Milton area for the last century (had a restaurant on Front Street from about 1906 to mid 70s) so I have a personal interest as many relatives are buried there. Anyway, I'll be returning in another week to do some very specific gen research and because the binder is so thick, I'm bringing my list of people to compare with their monster list of thousands. If there's a specific name you'd like looked up, I'd be happy to check the book. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
