He came back in 1779 after the revolutionary war treaties with the Indians were signed and purchased 400 acres in Elysburg, Northumberland County. There have been Campbell's in Elysburg ever since. I am a direct descendant of Obadiah, his son Obadiah (Jr.) and his son Obadiah S. and was in fact born on that 400 acres on the South side of Elysburg. A book on all of the Campbell descendants of Obadiah is available at the Northumberland Co. historical society and on a visit there you can make copies of any portion of it you wish. I am not familiar with the Campbell's you name and they are therefore probably not in my line from Obadiah, but you should certainly be able to find them at the Historical Society.

I suspect there is a connection. The Derks in the Shamokin area seem to have all come from Berks Co. Pa. prior to the 1820's. I found a number of hits for Derk by using Google. Seems many of the Derks along with my Roberts family are buried in the Shamokin Cemetery. I visit there occasionally since the trip from Shillington to Shamokin is only a little over an hour. I plan to go up again within the next two weeks to check out some microfilm in the Shamokin Library. Dave

Hello Deborah, The catalog of gravestones in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland, Pa. includes a note about Solomon ZELIFF and also lists Peter ZELIFF among burials for 1910. The Webpage is at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/northumberland/cemeteries/rivervw2.txt I am slightly acquainted with the ZELIFF surname from Northumberland PA. I'm hoping my little bit of ZELIFF information might be of interest to you, and perhaps you can provide me some clues on the ZELIFF in whom I am interested. This is a very rare surname and I strongly suspect there is a connection to be found between our families. My sister married into a Hoffman family that lived just outside of Northumberland in the west end of Point Twp., North'd Co. The earliest Hoffman we have in family records was Asher Sylvelster Hoffman 1862-1921. His wife was Susan Elizabeth ZELIFF b. 9/7/1860 in Washingtonville, Montour Co. Pa., m. about 1885, d. 11/5/1938 in Point Twp., Northumberland Co., bu. with her husband in Riverview Cemetery in Northumberland. Does the location of birth for my Susan ZELIFF suggest to you a new area to research? If you see a possible connection with your earlier ZELIFF family I would appreciate hearing from you. Nelson R.
