    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: SMITH (SCHMIDT); BRIDGE (BRITSCH) Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DcB.2ACE/3900 Message Board Post: I am seeking information about the wife of Jacob Smith (Schmidt) of Mahanoy Twp, Northumberland county. They are recorded as having a son, Samuel, born in 1801 and baptised in the Himmel Union Church. Jacob and his son Samuel are mentioned in Floyds History in the bio of Prof. Samuel G. Smith. I am trying to discover the maiden name of Jacob's wife Susanna. I believe she may have been my 4th great grandaunt, Susanna Bridge (daughter of Valentine Bridge and Anna Maria Lutz). I would appreciate any information about this. Thanks!

    2. Hello Listers, Would someone with access to the Meiser Cemetery books, please check for death dates for Zacharias Beach b. 1848 and his wife, Harriet Beach b. 1847? I know from the census, that Zacharias died between 1900-1910 and Harriet died between 1910-1920. They bounced between Northumberland, Montour and Columbia Counties (didn't everyone!) I am hoping to be able to send for a death certificate for Harriet if I can get an exact date of death. I apologize if you are seeing this message repeated on another list as I am cross posting. However, here are my direct paternal ancestors: Ralph W. Gass, Sr. is my grandfather. Since my dad is Jr. I always wondered where the Wesley came from, maybe from J. Wesley? I heard he was admired by HS Gass's family. That would be my great grandfather Harry Sylvester Gass, who married Clara Tharp. HS was one of William J.Gass and Clara Moyer's children. William J ( perhaps you know what the J stands for ?) was the son of Martin Gass and Elizabeth Persing and the grandson of William Henry Gass and Mary Kershner. I can't seem to get back any further than William Henry Gass and I do not have his exact dates. I tried to find out more by looking for his other chilren Kate Zerbe, Reily Gass, and Jacob Gass, but I have been unsucessful there also. If you need the dates I do have for these people, I will supply them. I would love to hear any info and any family stories you or your son have unearth! ed.Kay

    3. Hello Roger, I see you include in a message posted today on North'd Co. ListServ a number of Hepners descended from "+Isaac W. HEPNER b: November 1852 in Northumberland Co., PA (appears in 1880 Lower Mahanoy Twp., Northumberland Co., PA....)." I think we have had earlier correspondence, but not about HEPNER. I have a George Hepner (b. 1783 birthplace uncertain- d.1835) m. Eva Weiser (b.1782 Womelsdorf, Berks Co. d. 1846). I figure George probably migrated westward during expansion from Berks Co. into lower North'd Co. at the end of the 18th or very beginning of the 19th C. George and Eva lived out their lives in lower North'd Co. and are both buried in the Lutheran & Reformed churchyard in Hebe (Jordan Twp.) lower North'd Co. Starting in the early 19th C. I have hundreds of descendants for this couple. Regretably I do not find your Isaac W. Hepner b. 1852 among them. I suggest Isaac might have been part of my Hepner clan but possibly became lost from family records because he moved on west to Illinois. If you are looking for your Isaac Hepner's ancestors and would like to consider some families I have in my files, let me know. On the other hand, if you have Isaac's ancestors traced back to include my George Hepner b. 1783 (probably in Berks Co.), please let me know what you think I am missing. Best regards, Nelson R. 3. Wow I did a google search on Tphoid and could not beleive how many people died in the year 1906 alone . There are those who are just carrier's and don't die from it. 1906 The best known carrier was "Typhoid Mary"; Mary Mallon was a cook in Oyster Bay, New York in 1906 who is known to have infected 53 people, 5 of whom died. After being identified as a carrier, she was forcibly detained for three years and released on the promise that she would never again handle food. Five years after her release, she was found to have been the source of 25 cases of typhoid at the Women's Hospital in Manhattan 1906 Hannah E. Carl, died onDecember 12, Typhoid Fever, age 18-0-0, buried on December 15, Single Grave. ... In Philadelphia in 1906, six years before the ... water, 1,063 people died of typhoid Report on the Origin and Prevalence of Typhoid Fever in the District of Columbia (Rosenau, Lunsden, and Kastle, February 1907). A United States Public Health and Marine Hospital directive of 27 June 1906 ordered Rosenau to study why typhoid fever had been so prevalent in Washington, D.C., in the year prior to June 1906. Although the study revealed that only a minority of cases could be attributed to impure water and milk, the publicity sparked campagins to clean up water and milk supplies. Louis P. Cain, Loyola University of Chicago and Northwestern University and Elyce J. Rotella, Indiana University Using that definition, there are 187 mortality shocks with heavy concentrations in the years 1906-10, quite a few in the war years, and almost none in the 1920s. It is recognized by the sudden onset of sustained fever, severe headache, nausea and severe loss of appetite. It is sometimes accompanied by hoarse cough and constipation or diarrhoea. Salmonella Typhi lives only in humans. Persons with typhoid fever carry the bacteria in their bloodstream and intestinal tract. In addition, a small number of persons, called carriers , recover from typhoid fever but continue to carry the bacteria. Both ill persons and carriers shed S. Typhi in their feces (stool). You can get typhoid fever if you eat food or drink beverages that have been handled by a person who is shedding S. Typhi or if sewage contaminated with S. Typhi bacteria gets into the water you use for drinking or washing food. Therefore, typhoid fever is more common in areas of the world where handwashing is less frequent and water is likely to be contaminated with sewage. Once S. Typhi bacteria are eaten or drunk, they multiply and spread into the bloodstream. The body reacts with fever and other signs and symptoms. Jeanie
