1. Would someone please provide me the names(s) of the newspaper(s) published in Mount Carmel during the 1930's and 1940's. I believe one was the Mount Carmel News Item. I had my local library here in Nevada request microfilm copies of the Mount Carmel News Item for 1931- 35 from the State Library of Pennsylvania. The State Library faxed my local library and said that they did not have microfilm copies for those years. Is that possible? Was there another newspaper in circulation in Mount Carmel during the 1930's?
I don't have any info on McClains in that part of Ohio. I have found McClains in Clermont Co. and Brown Co. in s/w Ohio that were connected to my McCormick line. I'm still trying to match them up in Pa. Thanks. This is a stab in the dark!! My husband's McCLAIN line came from the Coshocton co, Ohio area. I cannot find him in the records though there are McCLAIN families there. I believe they came from Penn. Do you have any info on lines coming into the mid-eastern part of Ohio? Joseph married a gal from Noble co, OH, but in Athens co, OH. I have two Joseph McClains who died. Looking for anyone researching McClain and/or McCormick lines in Fayette, Westmoreland, or Northumberland Cos. in Pa. I have noted following in 1790 census for Fayette Co.: Alex McClean 1/7/4 in Union Twp. and Charles McCean 3/-/3 in Manellen Twp. First, I wonder if either of these McCleans/McClains are connected to any McCormicks in Fayette or Westmoreland Cos., in particular Wm., George and James McCormick as noted in 1785 tax list for Franklin Twp. Second, does anyone know if Alex and/or Charles McClean/McClain or their offspring migrated to Ky. I find an Alex McClean marrying Elizabeth Caldewll 1817 in Nicholas Co., Ky. and then moving on to Brown Co., Ohio in 1829. Charles McClean shows up next to Alex McClean in 1820 census for Nicholas Co. In addition, I found a Charles McClain (different one?) on tax lists for Bracken Co., Ky. 1799 thru 1804. In 1806/9 Charles and Margaret McClain of Clermont Co., Ohio sold a lot in Augusta, Bracken Co., Ky. to John E. McCormick. Further, in 1815 a John McClain married Jane McCormick in Bracken Co., Ky. with bond by John E. McCormick. Finally, I found a Charles McClean and Wm. McCormick in Pa. Rifle Co. under Capt. Casper Weitzel in Northumberland Co., Pa. in 1776. Does anyone know if they could be the same as the ones in Fayette Co. or in Ky.? Any info on McClain/McCormick connections in any of these locations would be appreciated. Art Miller, Louisville
Last summer I spent a good deal of time photographing headstones in the Shamokin Cemetery. Greg Price has been graciuos enough to post the list of names and dates of all the photos I have available on the Northumberland County website. There are roughly 100 photos available. The website is as follows: http://www.rootsweb.com/~panorthu/cemeterylist.html If you would like a copy of any of these photos, please email me. Thanks, and good luck! Heather Sharp-Makal

Hi Bob, I only have an obituary for Mrs. Emanuel Staner. The name is definitely Staner in the obit and it says where she was buried, however, she does not appear in the cemetery record that I have. There are Stoner, Stover, and Storer names in the area but they did not come from Northumberland Co. that I know of and I don't find an Emanuel. The obit says they were married in 1852 and came to Illinois so I am assuming Emanuel was also from Northumberland Co. There isn't anything else in this obit that would help connect with what you have. Just a big mystery so far. Roger
Hi Roger: I have a Mary Elizabeth Staner in my family that married a Daniel Kieffer/Keefer in PA. The only source for the Staner name comes from her obituary so I'm not definite on the spelling. I've been trying to locate anything more on her family. The obit states that she had quite a few siblings and that she was married in Sunbury. She would have been born around 1780 probably and she lived with one of her daughters who married a Fisher. She is buried in the Fisher cemetery. If you have anything more to offer I would greatly appreciate it. Best regards -- Bob Espinosa >I found an old obituary for Mrs. Emanuel Staner who died in 1898 in >Forreston, Ogle Co., IL. Does anyone know if there were any United Brethren Churches in Mount Carmel besides the frame building on the north side of Third street between Hickory and Market, used until 1874; then relocated to a frame church at the southwest corner of Vine and Third streets?
Hello, I'm trying to trace what happened to the Joseph F. Kirby family after 1880. According to the 1870 and 1880 Censuses, they lived in Sunbury, Northumberland Co., PA, from about 1869 or 1870 to sometime after 1880. The relevant 1870 and 1880 Census records are appended below (note the 1880 Census mention of Brosius, an oft-cited family in Northumberland Co. -- I separately posted on this earlier today.) I haven't yet checked the 1900 Census to see if anyone of the Kerby/ Kirby surname appears there, but unfortunately it is not indexed online. (Anyone with access to the 1900 Sunbury Census records?) Any help/advice to find out what happened to this Kirby/Kerby family would be most appreciated! My ultimate goal is to trace living descendents, if any, and see what genealogical information they may have. Thanks. Hello, I'm curious if anyone here doing research on the Brosius family of Northumberland Co. has any records pertaining to a Sarah A. Brosius, living with the "Kerby" family as noted in the 1880 Census: 1880 Census: East Ward, Sunbury, Northumberland, Pennsylvania ============================================================= Joseph F. BROSIUS Other Female 62 PA At Home PA PA I assume, right or wrong, that "Mary D. Kerby" is the daughter of Sarah A. Brosius, something which I'd like verified. If anyone here has any more information about this Sarah A. Brosius and her tie to the Kerby/Kirby family noted above, let me know! Of course, information as to what happened to the Kerby children is of especial interest. Thanks! Jon
Interested on any information on the Rees family of Northumberland County. I have a Tamar Rees who married Joseph Harris, a resident of Sunbury, who was born in Berks County, PA. Tamar was born about 1745. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Linda
There is a wonderful letter for auction on Ebay. The letter is written to the Treasury Dept on behalf of David Fulton. His father was a Pvt. in the 48th Reg. PA Volunteers. I beleive this is a letter requesting pension payments. If these Fultons are part of your family, this would be a wonderful addition to your family documents. The auction item number is 2242155818. Here is the link that will take you directly to it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&category=136&item=2242155818&rd=1 Good luck! Heather Makal
