Hi Seekers! I wasn't aware that there is a CD out there with the 1884 Shamokin directory on it. But, I also would truly appreciate a look-up on the surname, ALISON/ALLISON, provided someone has the CD/Census data and wants to do some kind deeds. HAYS/HAYES is the other surname from that particular Shamokin area that I am searching for - any data will certainly be appreciated. Many thanks in advance! Shirley: bobert@i-1.net

Please write your support for the restoration and upkeep of Harmony Cemetery, Milton. Thanks Ann from Michigan researching in PA: WENNER and DAVIS (who are buried in Harmony). ----------------- Forwarded Message: Subj: Re: Harmony Cemetery Date: 6/28/04 12:03:15 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: KayFromPA@webtv.net To: AGarvin224@aol.com, boozeman@pcspower.net Sent from the Internet (Details) HI Ann and Lou - Yesterday I called the President of the Milton Historical Society and she promised me she would make some phone calls and get back to me. This morning I called the Milton Borough Manager and he explained the cemetery situation to me - it seems that the Association still has 3 trust funds to draw from but with the present stock market conditions the funds are not producing much in the way of spendable money and the cemetery is operating in the red. He told me that at the next Council meeting (July 14) the Council will vote on the town taking over the cemetery and he assured me that all the cemetery records would be transferred to the Borough Building and he is very much interested in transferring the records to computer files and he will be providing a computer and space for people to do this work. He is so interested in the preservation that he offered me the job and said he would pay for meals, over-nights, etc. He said the first order of business would be the firing of "Randy" the person in charge of the cemetery. He also said that all future sales of lots would see the money (all of it) go into the maintance and restoration of the cemetery - he agrees that it is in deplorable condition. I grew up in Milton and my grandfather held the position of Borough Manager for about 10 years so I used a little bit of ancient history on him. I am sure that a letter to him would help when the matter comes up for Council vote - I have already written my letter to him and given him permission to read the letter at the July 14 council meeting and have also enclosed a map that the maintance dept. of Lewisburg Cemetery has prepared for people doing research there. Sorry I so lazy as to send this letter to both of you but you are both interested. The address for your letter is - Mr. Charles Beck Borough Manager Milton Borough Hall Milton, PA 17847 Hope all of this helps. Please keep in touch. Kay
please include me on your ListServ. thanks

Hi, I recently sent to Harmony for some information and they did finally send it to me but most of the information is incorrect. I sent a $10.00 donation along with my request. I am trying to locate my grandfather's sister, Elizabeth Lewis Gehris Stark, who was supposedly killed when a train hit the car she was in along with her husband Clarence Stark and son Harry Stark. It may have happened between 1923 and 1930 as I can't find them in the 1930 census. She is listed in one of her brother's obit.in 1923. They sent me information on an Elizabeth Stark but she isn't the one I have been looking for. Her brother Thomas Lewis is buried somewhere in Lewisburg so maybe she is buried there. Her daughter, Ismay Gehris Greiner is buried in Harmony. Actually, you may need to pay someone yourself to repair it...eliminating the middleman might be a good idea.

Hello everyone. I have just started a new website for digital gravestone pictures from Schuylkill, Berks, and Northumberland Counties. I live in Berks county near the boarder of Schuylkill county. I will be taking pictures with my digital camera this summer and uploading them to the web site. The digital pictures will be available free of charge to all visitors. Do you have pictures of gravestones from Berks, Schuylkill or Northumberland County, Pennsylvania? If so, please consider submitting the digital image to the project. You would be given credit on the submitter page and a chance to earn a free Memorial Page. So, far there are some gravestone images uploaded for St. Michael's Cemetery in Hamburg, Berks, PA and St. Ambrose Cemetery in Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkil County. The site is still a work-in-progress. Help spread the word on this new site. And, if you have a genealogy web site I'd be happy to exchange links with you. By the way, some of the interior pages use Flash and sound. So, you may need to be patient for the header of the page to load. Enjoy. http://www.ancestralbranches.com/tombstones/gravestones.html Sincerely, Melanie

I've been searching WENNER line (Milton, Northumberland Co) for any connection to my grandmother Mamie (Mayme/Mary) WENNER DAVIS. She had three siblings: Ellen, born 1863, Minnie, born 1864, and Edward born 1866. Their father was Thomas. Any one out there w/ info on this family? I'd be pleased to hear from you! Ann from Michigan

The "Mount Carmel Item" was the newspaper in circulation in Mount Carmel during the years you mentioned in your message, and as of several years ago microfilm copies of the newspaper were available from the State Library of PA. through inter-library loan. You may want to contact them personally through their web site www.statelibrary.state.pa.us and inquire about their inter-library loan policy for the Mount Carmel Item. Would someone please provide me the names(s) of the newspaper(s) published in Mount Carmel during the 1930's and 1940's. I believe one was the Mount Carmel News Item. I had my local library here in Nevada request microfilm copies of the Mount Carmel News Item for 1931- 35 from the State Library of Pennsylvania. The State Library faxed my local library and said that they did not have microfilm copies for those years. Is that possible? Was there another newspaper in circulation in Mount Carmel during the 1930's? >
