    1. Wm Penn Tomb Stone
    2. Jeanie Stout
    3. I walked the Wm Penn Spruce street cemetery in May 2004 with my dad and husband we were searching for Eben and Mary BASTIAN tomb stones. There was none . But Joe Mesier has them listed as buried in that cemetery. One tomb stone my dad and I looked at for a long time for clues. No dates it was old. No one around them we knew as ancestors. But the tomb stone had two surnames on it BASTIAN BOWEN. Joe Meiser does not have a BASTIAN BOWEN listed. Could this be my tomb stone? But he has Eben BASTIAN who married Mary Ann and we found her name to be BOWMAN in an 1850 census. I can not find her in any BOWMAN family the closest so far is John and Hannah BOWEN. They are in same cemetery. Joe Meiser has John BOWEN as Joseph. The census has him as John born in PA. Floyd history 1911 had him as John born in England with only 3 children. In Sunbury I found a younger John Bowen in census . I think he had more children than 3. But since we won't find them on any earlier than 1850 census we have to find another way to find out. He also has his wife Hannah Barnhart BOWEN as dying in 1884 but she is still alive in a census in 1900 in Shamokin with a niece and nephew. My Mary Ann names one daughter Alice and one Jannie. Angeline Bowen Haupt names a daughter Alice Jennie . They both name a son William. Several similar things. Mary Ann B BASTIAN 10/1/ 1833- 1/ 10/ 1890 If any one has any thing to say to help this puzzle I would really appreciate it. Thank you Jeanie

    3. I've just joined the list and am hoping for any advice from all of you. Information taken from ancestry.com, Northumberland GenWeb and the archives from this list: Robert BROOKS was born between April and June of 1834, apparently in Pennsylvania (1860 census). Married Catharine BELL in 1855 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran in Sunbury. Lived in Sunbury at the time of the 1860 census. Served from Apr-Jul 1861 in 11th PA infantry. Was desceased by 1870. Does someone know if Zion's records include details other than bride and groom? Cannot find Robert Brooks/Brooke etc in 1850 census index anywhere in the US. Have searched Sunbury, Shamokin, Lewis, Upper Augusta, Northumberland and Milton townships page by page so far in case he was missed. Other records of Brooks in Northumberland: Northumberland Co Deeds, Grantee Index Jacob KESTER to James BROOKS, Book L, page 86, dated 21 Sep 1799, recorded 13 Dec 1799 Does someone know where to find details of this deed? There was a James Brooks in Middle Paxton (now Paxton?), Dauphin County in 1800 which would be about 20 miles south of Sunbury, on the river. In 1840 there was a Henry Brooks age 20-29 in Northumberland, Northumberland. One woman age 20-29 lived with him. No Brooks found yet in Northumberland in 1850. 1854 Sunbury- commonwealth vs. George Brooks, true bill, verdict not guilty. Would the record of this provide any more deatils? 1860- John Brooks 24 in Northumberland, a boatman Thomas Brooks 22 in Milton, a painter Robbert Brooks 26 in Sunbury, a carpenter Both John and Thomas later named their first sons James. 1868 trial list from Shamokin Herald: Brooks & Newberry vs. Lackawanna RR. What other records exist for Northumberland 1840-1855? Tax lists? Anything. The river and canal may be a key here. Were there people working on the river that were not enumerated in the 1850 census? I know this was a problem in England. MaryLynn McCloskey, Bucks Co. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Vote for the stars of Yahoo!'s next ad campaign!

    1. Re: [PANORTHU-L] PHILIP and JOHN RENN / BASTIAN
    2. In "Early Pennsylvania Births" by Charles Fisher there is a Catherine Bastian, born 7/5/1777 in Lehigh Co., PA, daughter of Michael Bastian. Also listed is Elizabeth Bastian, born 8/11/1750 in Lehigh Co., PA, daughter of Michael Bastian. The years don't seem to match with what you are seeking, but maybe these items will help.

    1. PHILIP and JOHN RENN / BASTIAN
    2. Jeanie Stout
    3. I have an ancestor and I can not find any thing on her except what is in her fathers Will and in Floyd's history book. She was Catherine BASTIAN/ BOSTIAN was suppose to be married to a RENN maybe a John RENN . She was born in early 1800's daughter of George Michael BASTIAN and Susanna Bollender BASTIAN. They live just out side of Sunbury in Augusta TWP or Upper Augusta . I do not know were Catherine is buried. I have no birth or no death date and no children. She had a spinster sister who inherits a small estate Elisabeth BASTIAN who stays with her family and mother until her mothers death some time after 1860. I do not have a death date for her mother Susannah BASTIAN who is buried in WM Penns on Spruce street we believe. It gets interesting in 1860 Elizabeth with her mother has no estate of her own. 1870 with Philip RENN not married she still has no Estate in the census records. Her mother dies after 1860 and in 1870 Elizabeth with no Estate is living with 68 year old Philip RENN who is not married in 1860 or 1870 in Upper Augusta TWP Northumberland CO PA. Elizabeth BASTIAN dies in 1876. I am wondering if Philip RENN is not the same John RENN Brother in-law. WILL February 18, 1845 death of Micheal George BOSTION Elisabeth Bostion, I order and direct my executors to pay her the sum of Fifty dollars more than any of my other children her before named, and also one good bed and bedding and Bedstead [Bedding?] and one good Bureau and six Windsor Chairs for her only use. Thank you for any light you can shed on these women. Jeanie
