    3. Dear Mr Polin How are you doing? I really enjoy your transcription of the Shamokin Cemetery. I find relatives in almost every section. I seek out women who married into family's I have no knowledge of and find many listed under husbands names. I am seeking a Martha maiden name Osman born 1858 she must of married. So I check regularly to see if you have been able to complete a new section. I wish it was possible for more cemetery's to be on the genealogy sites. I hope you can get a new section up soon. Thank you for what you have done so far. Jeanie

    3. Dear Listers I am looking for my great-uncle Owen Morse Phillips (Owen M Phillips) and I understand he was at Shamokin, Northumberland according to 1800 Census but it is a mystery that there is no information about him after that... I understand that there were no other census with his name found as I am told. I looked up the Ancestry but I am not a member and there are 1900, 1920, and 1930 US Federal Census at Ancestry with Owen M Phillips who born at Wales in 1859/60. I wonder if there is one or not? Would anyone be kind enough to look up for me please? Thank you in advance. Angela Treanor New Zealand

    1. Re: [PANORTHU-L] Question re: naturalization papers
    2. Re: Vince's msg below I checked my great grandfather's papers, which were also on file at Sunbury. James Wilson arrived in the US in 1884, [ I found his passenger record at the National Archives.] filed his declaration of intent in 1893, and was approved in 1895. At the bottom of the 1895 document, which mentioned Frederick Haas and Nicholas Ruffing as citizens who could attest to him, is evidence of a seal of approval, although it is hard to make out on the photocopy. I believe this was the certificate of citizenship. 1. MOHR mystery
    2. John Flora
    3. Hi all! I'm hoping somebody can help me. My g2-grandfather, William MOHR, died in Anthony Township, Montour County, on 25 August 1900. The death register in Danville says he was buried in Turbotville. I have searched Meiser's six-volume set of Northumberland County cemetery inscriptions and found only three cemeteries in Turbotville. William is not in any of them. I have checked the existing Danville and Montour County newspapers on microfilm, but I have not found an obituary there. I'm thinking of calling the Brooks Funeral Home in Turbotville to see if they have any suggestions, or if perhaps they "inherited" records from a previously existing home. Any other ideas? _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Declare Yourself - Register online to vote today! http://vote.yahoo.com

    1. Re: [PANORTHU-L] Question re: naturalization papers
    2. Hi Vince, Naturalization was a two-step process that took a minimum of 4 years: 2 years of residency before declaring, then 2 more years before filing the petition for citizenship, or "final papers." So, I'm guessing that the date the declaration was approved did not actually mean that the person received citizenship as well. I think the court clerk misspoke themselves. Normally, minor-aged children received derivitive citizenship through their father and no paperwork needed to be filed, so the minor petition you find is kind of unique. Citizenship certificates were not kept on file in the courts, but were given directly to the newly naturalized citizen, so the only way to find one for your person would be if a relative has possession of it. I hope this info helps. John Deeben National Archives Research Support Branch (Also a Northumberland County native!)

    1. Question re: naturalization papers
    2. Vince Zotkiewicz
    3. I am in possession of the naturalization papers dated August 25,1884 of a family member obtained from the Sunbury courthouse. One document is obviously the Declaration of Intention, but does not bear that title on the top of the page. The second document also does not have a title, but does indicate by a notation of the printing company that it is a Minority Petition. I was under the assumption that there would be the third document, being the citizenship certificate, but this document was not in file. I was advised by a court clerk that as the minority petition was approved by the court on the same date that the minority petition was prepared, and the application for citizenship was approved and finalized on that date, the citizenship certificate was not issued. I also noted that the declaration of intention, the minority petition, and the court approval for citizenship all took place on the same date, August 25,1884. Was this normal procedure during this time period in Pennsylvania whereby citizenship could be applied for and granted on the same day? Also, if a certificate of citizenship was issued in this case, but not in Sunbury's files, where can the certificate be located? If anyone can offer input on this inquiry it will be appreciated. Vince

    1. Owen Morse Phillips
    2. Angie and Alex
    3. Dear Listers I am new to this list. I have found out that my great-great-uncle Owen Morse Phillips was in the 1880 US Census that he was a boarder at Shamokin, Northumberland as a Cabinetmaker. He was born at Haverfordwest, Wales in Sept Q 1859 but according to this census he was born in around 1860. There is only one 1880 US Census for him but there was no records in 1900 or 1920 - what about 1890? I wonder if you have the directories or similar for his records in later years after 1880? I wonder if you have the international passengers list? I would be grateful for your advices. Thank you in advance. Angela Treanor New Zealand

    1. HILBUSH Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs which appear to belong to the HILBUSH Family of Pennyslvania. The first is a photograph of Mary J. HILBUSH of Mahanoy, Pennsylvania which was taken at the Krigbaum Studio in Shamokin, PA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Mary appearing to be in her teens or 20's at the time. Based on limited research I believe that this may be a photograph of Mary J. HILBUSH daughter of E.R. & Harriet HILBUSH who were included in the 1880 census living in Jackson, PA. Mary J. was 12 years old at that time living with her parents E.R. age 41, Harriet age 39, and siblings, Edwin S. age 13, George age 9, Lizzie age 8, and Richard age 3. All family members were listed as born in PA as well as all of their parents also having been born in PA. Mary J. HILBUSH b. 1868 married Morris ROTHERMEL in 1887 in Northumberland Co. PA and died in 1940. The second is a photo postcard of an infant identified as the "daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward HILBUSH" and notes that she died in 1916. The photograph was taken at the Swank Studio in Shamokin, PA probably sometime between 1910-1916. I'm hoping to locate someone from the HILBUSH Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
