    3. Sue Thanks very much. I will start looking in Snyder county. That makes sense as I have always found more history in the newer counties. At various times Snyder was a part of each of the counties that my Sam was known to be in. J. Ray Young --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 2. Dear John: Thank you very for the much for the information. It helps to know that the school building is still there as this locates my great great grandfather's land. Do you have records of the Zion Stone Church in Augustaville? If so would you look up Martz and Emerick. I have the map of the township from GENWEB and I notice a cemetery between Augustaville and the church. Which cemetery is that? Again thank you for helping. At the main intersection in Augustaville (where Rt. 890 meets the road that runs south from Seven Points) there is an old brick schoolhouse that has now been converted into a garage. I'm sure that's the school that is mentioned in your deed. Unfortunately I don't know of any other maps that would provide the local road names. I'm only familiar with the area because I grew up nearby in Seven Points. John >>

    1. Augustaville Help Please
    2. I am looking for information about my great grandfather, Isaac Martz, who lived in Lower Augusta Township, Northumberland County, near Augustaville from 1860 to 1888. I have recently received a deed of the land that Isaac Martz and Mary Emerick Martz owned and I am trying to locate it on a map. The deed states that the land reaches Tulpehocken Rd. and the Little Shamokin Creek and that there is a schoolhouse on the property. The information from the deed follows: “All of the following described tract of land situated in the Rockefeller (formally Lower Augusta) Township bounded and described as follows: Beginning at a stone corner at a point between the lands of Felix Kensitter and John Bloom, thence by lands of John Bloom south 60 degrees west 77 purches (5-5 yard) to a stone corner thence by the land of same south 29 degrees west 16 purches to a corner in public road thence by land of George B. Conrad and the heirs of Maria Foye, deceased, south 89 degrees west 60 purches to a stone corner thence by the lands of John R. Malick and William Malick’s estate north 75 degrees west 89 purches to a post in Little Shamokin Creek and thence by lands of George P. Conrad and Felix Kensitter south 75 degrees east 148 purches to place of beginning, containing 46 acres, more or less. “Excepting however out of the foregoing tract a certain piece of land on the comer of the Tulpehocken Road and the public road leading from it to seven points containing about one half acre of land conveyed by the parties of the first part to the Lower Augusta School District and on which half acre there is now erected a brick schoolhouse. Being a part of the same tract of land which Peter Reeser and wife, by deed dated April 2, 1860, and recorded in deed book 2020 page 557 granted and conveyed to Mary Martz one of the parties of the first part hereto and embracing all the property or land conveyed by said deed from Peter Reeser to Mary Martz excepting the schoolhouse property.” I see that the church is on Tulpehocken Rd. and wonder if that is name of Highway 890 that goes through Augustaville. Do you know of any land maps that would help me? I have the Rockefeller Township map and is helpful but there are no names of roads. It does locate the church and shows the Creek. I am a long way from Pennesylvania and would like to hear from someone who knows the area. Any help you can give will be appreciated. Louis Fackler Scotts Valley, CA
