I think I have a picture of this guy on an attachment from my brother who got it from a ROCKWELL collection from my grandfathers things. My grandfather mothers was a ROCKWELL. No name is on the picture but he is standing on what looks like Sunbury's old toll bridge? Would any one know what this guy or bridge looked like in early 1900's? Jeanie George B ROCKWELL bron 2 1874 1910 He is a contractor of bridges. Lives in Sunbury single his mother lives with him His father was . LUDLEM B. ROCKWELL, patentee and manufacturer of the celebrated Rockwell process for tempering steel, is a native of Wayne county, Pennsylvania, son of William P. and Sarah S. (Bassett) Rockwell, and was born, September 10, 1843. The Rockwells came originally from England, the Bassetts from France, and both families were found among the early American colonists. The subject of this sketch received a common school education, and at Waymart learned the trade of blacksmith and wagon maker, at which he was engaged at the outbreak of the Rebellion. In October, 1862, he entered the army, and spent nine months on detached duty in Philadelphia. February 28, 1864, in New York City, he enlisted in Company F, Fiftieth New York Volunteers, and served until the close of the war in the Army of the Potomac. Leaving the army he returned to Waymart, Pennsylvania, and there for three years worked at blacksmithing. He came to Sunbury in 1872 and for some years followed his trade. In December, 1884, he patented his process for tempering steel, and in 1888 secured letters on his method of moulding steel, an invention whereby he converts refused, worn-out and broken steel tools into the highest grades of knives and other steel and iron-cutting implements. Mr. Rockwell is a member of the G.A.R. and of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was married in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, September 5, 1865, to Margaret Thorpe.

I recently came across an old family photo. It belonged to Ethel Thomas, who was the daughter of Daniel Fremont Stutzman (my great grandfather) and Laura Etta Wert. On the back of the photo is written in her handwritting "my great grandma and pop". Based on the Stutzman line, the lineage would not work as her great grand pop, Gottfried, died young in the 1830's. This could then be on her maternal side and would be a photo of Christian Wert and his wife, Polly Bitterman. Christian was born in 1799 but I have not done much work on the branch and do not have infomation on Polly. On the back of the photo is also SL Miller, photographer, Lykens, Pa. I have no information on this person. I would be glad to forward this photo over the internet to any one interested. I would also like to find out information on the photographer. Any help is appreciated. Dan Stutzman - Fl
Hello Northumberland Co. Listers, I need a copy of obituary or news article for the death of Samuel Edwin Geise born 4 October 1911 and died 15 August 1938, both in Point Twp., Northumberland Co. His parents were William and Mallie Geise of Point Twp. In addition to the regular report in the obituary column, his death would probably have been reported in the Northumberland Section of a Sunbury newspaper. The Sunbury Daily and the Sunbury Item were the two papers published in Sunbury. They merged into the Sunbury Daily Item around that time, but I do not know whether they merged before or after 1938. Can someone on the ListServ tell me how to obtain a copy of the 8/15/1938 obituary, the news report of his death, or both, either by using Internet research or by E-mail? Of course if a Lister would be able to do a lookup and send it to me, I would be eternally grateful. Nelson R. Sulouff Born and raised in Northumberland Co. Retired in Oro Valley AZ zuli@sprintmail.com

Thomas MONTGOMERY, b. place and time unknown, d. ca 1853, probably in Muncy, PA married Mary E. ____. Mary E.Montgomery died in 1865. Thomas and Mary had a daughter, Henrietta Graham MONTGOMERY, born 1833 in Mifflinburg, PA. Henrietta married Joseph Shoemaker 18 June 1854 also in MIfflinburg. Joseph and Henrietta were long time residents of Muncy, PA. Joseph's family had pioneered in Muncy. Joseph and Henrietta SHOEMAKER had a daughter Rosetta BENNETT SHOEMAKER b. 2 February 1860 in Muncy. I can not find any more information on Thomas MONTGOMERY and his wife Mary E. ______. I can find no siblings for Henrietta GRAHAM MONTGOMERY. I have no idea why Joseph and Henrietta GRAHAM MONTGOMERY would name their child Rosetta BENNETT SHOEMAKER, nor where the GRAHAM came from as Henrietta's middle name. I don't understand the relationship between Mifflinburg and Muncy. If anyone can help educate me on any of these matters, I would be very grateful. Regards, Georgia Whitson
