Bill, I am transferring my response from the Northumberland Co. ListServ to the GEISE ListServ because I feel our discussion has become too specific to continue posting on the Northumberland Co. ListServ. I am descended from immigrant George Adam GEISS as follows: George Adam GEISS (1725-1784) Heinrich Adam GEISE b. 1764 Samuel GEISE (1792-1876) Henry GEISE (1818-1900) Samuel Brouse GEISE (1848-1907) Dora Edna GEISE (1879-1939) William Raymond SULOUFF (1903-1993) Nelson Raymond SULOUFF (1929- ) You ask for the names I have for children of my immigrant GEISS. Since I cannot send an attachment to you via the ListServ, I will send you a personal message with an attached Word file containing the first three generations of his descendants as held in my records. Hello Merle, The correct spelling is Mahantango. It is the name of a creek system that flows along the northern side of Mahantango Mountain, beginning in Schuylkill Co. east of Klingerstown and flowing generally west-southwestward to form the line between Dauphin & Northumberland Counties, finally emptying into the Susquehanna R. near Millerstown. The Pennsylvania Line, 4th ed. (1990) shows there is today an Upper Mahantango Township in Schuylkill Co., formed in 1811. A USGS GNIS map search for Mahantango as a "populated place" shows there is a very small village by that name on the west side of the Susquehanna R., about 6 miles north of Liverpool, at the intersection of Old Trail Road and St. Paul Road. I think that would put it in Susquehanna Twp., Juniata Co. rather than in Liverpool Twp., Perry Co. Nelson R. Martha (Mattie) Wilson married James Riddle(Riddell) about 1824 in Northumberland Co. PA. They had children Robert, Matha, Mary Elizabeth, Samuel Wilson, Margaret and Charles. Martha Wilson Riddle was born about 1797 she died 1 Sep 1876 and is buried in Milton Her mother Mary Wilson was born about 1780-1785 and died after the 1860 census. (the 1850 census says 1785, but that would be pretty impossible because of her daughters birth about 1797) Searching for the husband of Mary Wilson. Since one of Mary's grandsons was named Samuel Wilson Riddle, that is the only lead I have. Can't find where Mary Wilson is buried either. Thanks janet welty

For Jeanne Stout: Hanna DIETERICH, born 1813, married Adam SNYDER. They had a daughter, Barabara born 1838, who was my maternal greatgrandmother. You should be able to find information about Hanna's father in the online editions of the Northumberland County history books.
I have an ancestores I would love more data on if any one has any they would please like to share. Any thing wrong please correct me. Barbara Dachs GEISE born about 1764-1824 wife of Johannes "John" DIETRICH 1764-1844 Schuylkill CO PA 7 children Eva Elizabeth 1790 John JR 1789 Andrew 1791 George 1792 Philip 1795 My linage through him.to Lydia his daughter. Leonard 1799 Hanna 1813 ------------- Anna Elizabeth GEISE born Oct 30 1727 in Phoffenbeerfurth, Oldenwald Palatinate Germany She married Alexander KLINGER on the date of February 14, 1746/47 --- I have the name George Adam GEIS his children Hendrick and Christiana Wife and mother was Anna Barbara Haak/Haag wedding date May 15, 1758 Jeanie
Jeanie, According to the pastoral acts record book of Rev. John Caspar Stoever, the immigrant George Adam GEISS (= GEIß in German) married Anna Barbara HAAG 5/15/1758 in Bern Twp., Berks Co. PA. The names of the two children you mention are evidently their fifth child, Heinrich Adam GEISS born 6/21/1764, and their seventh child, Christiana born 7/13/1768. Anna Elizabeth GEISS (GEIß) was born 10/30/1727 in Pfaffen-Beerfurth, Odenwald, Germany. She married Alexander KLINGER 2/14/1746/47 in Richelsheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. They arrived in Philadelphia on 9/2/1749 aboard the ship named ALBANY. I have been advised by other researchers that in 1753 and in 1761, Alexander is shown on tax lists in Reading PA and, that in 1767 he is called an "Innkeeper" in the same city, and an owner of two homes. In 1780 he moved westward on the Tulpehocken Trail to Upper Mahantango Twp. (then in Berks Co. and after 1811 in Schuylkill Co.). The land he purchased there is now partially occupied by the village of Klingerstown. The village, founded in 1807, had many lots laid out by Alexander's son(s) and was named Klingerstown after Alexander. Later, Alexander and his wife returned to live in Reading, where they died and are buried. I have nothing on your "Barbara Dachs GEISE" in my records. I would recommend you state your interest and questions about her in a posting on the "GEISS and GEISE" ListServ. Bill, My paternal grandmother was a GEISE. Her immigrant ancestor was George Adam GEISS (1725-1784) who arrived on the PEGGY 9/24/1753. He lived out his live in Berks Co. PA. I have a little on his parentage and I have 507 descendants and 256 spouses of descendants for him. I also have a very little information on Adam's brother, Phillip Jacob GEISS who arrived in America 9/25/1751. He moved from Berks Co. to Centre Co. PA, where he died and presumably is buried. Can you trace your ancestry back to either of these two brothers? Nelson R. Fellow List Members, I submitted a supplemental patriot ancestor application for the SAR regarding my 4th great-grandfather Hugh Hughes, who was married to Mary Hutton. Today I received notice the SAR HQ requires more documentation for proof my 3rd great-grandfather John Hughes is Hugh's son. I have a copy of a petition from the January 1817 term for the Northumberland County court relating to the heirs desire for the estate to be awarded. This petition lists John Hughes as a son and lawful heir of Hugh Hughes, one of his eleven children. The person who sent this copy to me made a notation of OC#6-118. Unfortunately, I neglected to put this data in with my application, and need to know for certain what book, etc. this information derives from. John Hughes married Elizabeth Dreibelbis (Trevlepiece, etc.) about 1820. They lived in Schuylkill County. It is the link from Hugh to John that I need. Is some kind soul going to be at the courthouse in the VERY near future who could look this (and anything else they can find) up? I am willing to pay for your time, copies, etc. Another mystery is the DAR Patriot index lists Hugh Hughes' date of death as 1838, as does a DAR record copy I obtained. However, the court petition as earlier stated is from 1817. Any ideas on this new mystery are welcome. PLEASE email me directly off-list if you can assist me and I can provide additional details. Thank you very much! Regards, Mike Johnston Oswego, IL
