Just incase you all didn't notice. Mr William Polan has finished transcribing the L's for the Shamokin Cemetery . ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/northumberland/cemeteries/scbrL001.txt Thank you Mr Polan I know this takes a good amount of time and work . Jeanie
Yes the Sunbury Public library has old city directories. Not sure how far back but I found family in early 1900's in them. Jeanie > Dose anyone know if there were city directorys for Sunbury and how far back > they would go? > Thank for any help. > Jean > >
Hi - Would someone please tell me what year the Civil War monument was erected in the park at Sunbury. Thank you, Sid
I have three studio portrait photographs of Walter PENMAN, Sr., Walter PENMAN, Jr. and John PENMAN. All are members of the Walter and Letitia PENMAN family who lived on South Oak Street, Mt. Carmel in ca 1920-1930. I believe Letitia PENMAN was born WILLIAMS. Would like to place these photos with someone who would appreciate them. Tom Gross Rocky Hill CT
Dose anyone know if there were city directorys for Sunbury and how far back they would go? Thank for any help. Jean
Thank you for those who responded about located Sunbury in the Census. I will go back and search those suggestions. Also thank you to the one who posted the history of Sunbury. It is very interesting. I knew nothing about Sunbury. My great grandmother was born in Sunbury in 1884 so I am hoping to find the family living there in 1880. I do not know the age range or the birth order of her siblings. I do know the names. So I am hoping to find out something. She died at such a young age from childbirth after the 9th child in 1918 that for many many years there has not been anyone around who could tell me about her. My grandmother was only 6 when her mother died but because of taboo subjects in the family such as children born out of wedlock, my grandmother never talked about her. She only ever told us her maiden name and where she was born. searching for FRITZ in Sunbury, Shamokin and anywhere in Northumberland County or surrounding areas that might be related. Lewis and Elizabeth (Baker) Fritz son John and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Fritz children: Goldie, Ruth, Freda, Lewis Thanks again for the help and info. Sharon in Chester County PA GO EAGLES!
Sorry, if this posted before, but Sunbury is incorrectly listed as "Lunburg" in the 1880 Census on Ancestry.com Greg
At Ancestry.com, Sunbury is incorrectly listed as "Lunburg". Greg > Can someone tell me what year the name Sunbury started being used? FYI, At familysearch.org (LDS site) Sunbury is listed as Sunbury in their 1880 index. Greg > Can someone tell me what year the name Sunbury started being used? I can tell you that the index for 1880 has Sunbury incorrectly listed as "Lunburg" because, apparently the indexer confused the "S" for an "L" and the "y" as a "g". So, search the 1880 for Lunburg and you should have Sunbury! Greg > Sunbury is in Upper Augusta Township, which is an enumeration district in > the 1880 census. Maybe you can try that. I am not sure if Farrow book is the same as Meiser book . In the past I wanted fairly much data from Joe Meiser on the William Penn and Promfret Cemetery's of Sunbury and I called or wrote/ to the Sunbury Public Library . They copied pages from the Joe Meiser books on the surnames pages . Their may be some people they miss if they are women who married into other families. The Public Libraries usually need a small fee to cover copies and postage etc. You can find the address on the internet. Jeanie
I've gone to the Edison Hotel to eat quite a few times and I believe the original wiring for the first light is still there! Just kidding.
Sunbury is in Upper Augusta Township, which is an enumeration district in the 1880 census. Maybe you can try that. Good luck. Sharon, An archive of the Sunbury Daily Item reported that on 24 Aug 2003 Scott Heintzelman, president of the Northumberland County Historical Society, while leading a historical study group, stated that Sunbury was incorporated as a borough in 1772. See http://www.dailyitem.com/archive/2003/0824/local/stories/07local.htm More details on the naming of Sunbury and earlier names used for the area are found at above Website. Nelson R.
