Going back in time, I lose the Shroyers down east in PA, but pick up Schreyers. Both names with and without the C. I think they may be one and the same family, but I have nothing to prove it. The Shroyers came to Bedford County from eastern PA in the late 1700's (1780 or so? - maybe before), but the earliest record with that spelling is 1765 or so, down east. They are on my husband's side of the family, and they have pretty much zero interest in genealogy. I has been my experience with other families that I have researched, that you will almost always find multiple ways of spelling a name. Keep in mind that often immigrants couldn't read or write and when they arrived here and told someone what their names were, that person would spell it the best way they knew how, and often that spelling would stick, or it could change the next time some wrote it down.
