Monroe County History Learn Family (Henry-subject) Learn, Peter, grandfather of Poconq township, married Margaret "Starner". He died in 1880, 6 months before his 90th birthday. She died age 77. She was probably a native of Allentown. Four of their children lived to maturity; Amos; Sallie married David Edinger and they lived in Bradford Co.; Jacob, and Morris of Iowa. Jacob Learn, born Jan 22, 1824 in Pocono twp. He married Mary A." Werkheiser", born April 24, 1824 in Hamilton twp., and they had children; Peter; Cathaine, who married Charles Singer, of Pocono; Henry; Margaret, the wife ofGeorge Butz. Henry Learn, ( born April 27, 1849) sheriff of Monroe Co (probably of French origin) the name having formerly been Laner, his great-grandfather, Jacob Learn, was a farmer in Hamilton twp. Sheriff Learn in the spring 1869 married Ella Walters, who died in 1884. On Nov 26, 1865 he married 2nd to Mrs. Anna Shook nee Brown Of the first marriage were children; Herbert W., who married Cora Singer and they had two children (Walter and Mary); John A. Learn, Joseph, subject, Paradise twp., Monroe County, was born Sept. 1840. His parents, John (died 1881) and Susanna ("Workheiser) Learn ( died 1879) were born and readed in Hamilton twp. Children; Elizabeth, married William "Coffman', of Paradise; Christine, marrid Tobias Setzer; Lydia, married Jacob Warner; Katie, married Samuel Bowman, they moved to Iowa; Hannah, married Charles Anglemyer and they lived in Stroudsburg; Jacob married Mary A. Woodling, she died 1898 leaving children (John, Annie and Alvin); Julia, maried William C. Heller; Mary, married James Buskirk, of Hamilton and they moved to Lackawanna Co. Joseph W. Learn, in 1861 married Mary E. Heller, d/o of James and Rachel (Keller) Heller, of Hamilton townshp. Children; William J., born Feb 1862,married Sarah Bowman, d/o David; Franklin J., born 1865, married Mary Schook of Paradise, children (Florence and Clara); Milton S., born 1869 he married Nettie Bush, children (Dale H. and Arlet); Ida M. born 1875, married John Fanseen of Paradise twp, children, ( Leandro, Clinton, and Norman); Clinton E. born June 6, 1879.
