S. K. Belles, of Dimock township, was born near Tannersville, in Pocono township, Monroe County, May 4, 1838. His father, J.D.Belles was a native of the same place, born Jan 6, 1806, s/o George and Mary (DeHaven) Belles. J. D. Belles married Elsie Brown, who lost her father when only a child. Until S.K. was 12 years old his father followed farming in Pocono township, he moved to Plymouth, Luzerne Co. He then moved to Lake township in the same county, and in Moroe township, Wyoming Co., where he followed farming. He then returned to Tannersville where he died 1871. His wife died in Beaumont, Wyoming Co in 1873. Children; Hiram, born 1858, Anna Maria married William Birnk, and died 188, Amos soldier of the Civil war, 143rd PA and was killed at the battle of Fredericksburg, S.K. , Adam, of Beaumont, Lewis W., died at Leham, Sarah, and Elizabeth, twins,Mary Jane, and Miner V. who was killed in a sawmill. On July 4, 1860 near Deckertown, NJ married to Emily Brink. Children; Anna F., born 1862 married John Drake of Luzerne Co. Mrs. Belles died in Jan 1862 while he was in the army. In Monroe Co, Jan 1865 he married Julia Ann Gordn, who died in Pike Creek, Luzerne County and Frank A., of Meeker, Luzerne Co. Soldier's brother, Andrew Bellis was aged 83 on 15 July 1839, a resident of Hopewell, Mercer Co., NJ and states that the widow was Nelly Williamson Bellos, Adam or as Adam Bellis, NJ Line applied 1832 in Somerset Co.
