    1. [PANORTHA-L] Which Gradwohl m. Frey? also Bauer/Bowers, Grotz, Raesner, Schug & Stem,
    2. I am still pondering: who were the parents of Irwin (Irvin) FREY b.~1875, the grandson of John GRADWOHL and Mary Ann GROTZ? They are together at 136 McCartney Street (on College Hill), Easton, Northampton Co., PA in the 1880 census. It appears that there may indeed have been another daughter. In the 1900 census Mary A. GRADWOHL, residing w/son Adam, reported that she had had SEVEN children and that 5 were then living. I know that Levi (1854-1855) was one of the deceased children. Who is the 7th child, and why are they not listed in the 1850, 1860, or 1870 census, IF in fact it was a daughter who grew to adulthood? In the 1840 census John had a female under age 5 in his household, who I presume was Sarah Ann b. 3/1840. Kathy DeMenchi, who found the baptisim records at the Reformed Church, did not find a 7th child. Should I conclude that the unknown child died "young" during one of the spans between census takings? Their daughter, Sarah Ann GRADWOHL m. Simon RAESNER, is in Forks twnshp in 1880: Simon RASNER, 44, works in brickyard and Sarah A. age 40. Children Mary J, Matilda, Ellen, Sallie, Anna & William. This is probably the Simon RAESNER who helped build St. Peter's (5th Lutheran) Church in Easton, ca.1870. Listed with Simon, in the Hx of Easton, is another builder, Charles STEM.. Hmm, wonder if Charles is related to the James STEM who m. Martha GRADWOHL? Maria Catherine GRADWOHL (8/1843) m Amandus SCHUG, are fairly well documented. They lived down the street from John Gradwohl (136 McCartney) at 130 McCartney in Easton. Amandus is one of the signers of the contract to build St. Peter's Church. Children Amanda, Matilda (Tilly), Edgar, Martha Jane, Howard & Clarence. (note: in the 1890 directory they have Edgar SCHUG clerk, John SCHUG carpenter, George BM SCHUG laborer, Etna, Ludia, & Mamie living w/them at 130 McCartney). Susan GRADWOHL (~1847) m Ephraim Bauer (aka Bower), who is also associated with St. Peter's Church. In 1870 they are in Easton, he is a painter, and by 1880 they are in Forks twnshp. In the 1890 directory they are BOWERS at 716 Cattel St., Easton; he is a painter. Children Susan, Annie, Wilson, Minnie & Edith. Adam GRADWOHL (10/1851) m. Priscilla LERCH, attended Lafayette college (teaching certificate?) but apparently did not graduate with his class in 1874. He was a carpenter's apprentice, taught for awhile, then became a brush salesman. They "kept" boarders from Lafayette College. Children Daisy, Herbert, Mary & Beaulah. Lived at 136 McCartney aft. John GRADWOHL died in 1882. Levi GRADWOHL b. 11/1854 d. 1/1855 James STEM and Martha GRADWOHL (9/1857), in 1880, are in the 3rd Ward of Easton, he is age 25,a teamster and she is age 22, keeping house. Children Carrie & Mabel. There may be more children, I havn't yet found them in the 1900 or 1910 census. I would be interested in hearing from any "cousins" or researchers of these surnames. J.R.
