Daniel Kunkler/Kunckler/Kunchler was b. 2/27/1719 in St.Gallen, Switzerland d. 1777 Bethlehem, Northampton Co., PA within "sound of cannon fire coming from Philadelphia".(Ok, history buffs, what month(s) in 1777 was Philly fired upon? Hmm....time for a google search) Quoting from the Bethlehem Diaries and other sources there is an article in the bdhp; seach for Daniel KunCkler, that says:: "Daniel Kunckler's career is more varied than either Edmond's or Oberlin's. Of Swiss extraction and trained as a shoemaker, he suffered persecution because of his religious beliefs after his awakening. He joined Hermhaag, one of the short-lived Moravian communities near Frankfurt-am-Main. From there, he and his new wife came to Pennsylvania in 1743 with the Second Sea Congregation, where he worked variously in Nazareth....." I assume that the "new" wife was Anna Maria Meyen (aka May, aka Maven). Thanks to Gerri for the info. that the marriage took place in 1743 in Wetteravia, Germany; and that Anna Maria was raised in the family of Baron de Schrautenbach. Anyone know about the "old" wife? I am a descendant of Anna & Daniel's son, Peter Kunkler (1762- 1810) m. Anna Elisabeth Daniel (~1763-?). Peter's son, Charles (1801-1874) is the ancestor who moved to Ohio. J.R.
