Lancaster County History Rev. Darius William "Gerhard," A.M. was born in Berks County, March 21, 1838. He served 9 months in Co. E 135th PA Vols. After his discharge he entered Reformed Theolgical Seminary at Mercersburg. He married Mary C. Geise, d/o Jacob Geise of Reading. Children- (1). Paul Lambert, A.M., (2). Elizabeth, (3) Mary E., (4) Martha, and (5) William S. Rev. Emanuel Vogel 'Gerhart", D.D. his grandfather was Abraham Gerhart, having been born in Sellersville, Bucks County. Dr. Gerhart was born June 13, 1817 at Freesburg, PA., where his father, Rev. Isaac Gerhart, was the pastor of the Reformed Church. Dr. Gerhart was married at Hagerstown, MD., on Jan 3, 1843 to Elizabeth Rickenbaugh, a native of MD, d/o Martin Rickenbaugh. Children- (1). Col. Wm. R. (Civil war); (2) Rev. Robert Leighton;(3) Virgina; (4) Paul, who died in 1901. Elizabeth (Rickenbaugh) died in Jan. 1864 and Dr. Gerhart married Aug. 1865 to Mrs. Mary M. Hunter, widow of Frederick S. Hunter of Reading. She passed away 1 year later and after a widowhood of nine year he married Dec. 29, 1875 to Miss Lucia D. Cobb, the eldest daughter of Rev. Asahel Cobb John " Gerhart", of Providence township, was born in Wallerstadten, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germay, Aug 10, 1840, a son of Peter Gerhart, who died in his native land. Mr. Gerhart, married in Lancaster Co., to Mary Kerner. Henry "Gerhart", of Lancaster, was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, Nov. 22, 1835, son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Thies) Gerhart. In 18866 he married Maria Wittlinger of Lancaster. Mrs. Gerhart died Nov. 1893 leaving one son J.H. Gerhart. Milton Ursinus "Gerhard", M.D. who married Frances E., the only daughter of John A. Burger, was born in Bucks County, where his father Rev. W. T. Gerhard was stationed. Dr. Gerhard and wife, made their home with her mother at # 43 South Prince St. Lancaster. Col. William R." Gerhart", in the spring of 1864 he was commissioned a major of the 125th US Colored Infantry, of which he later became colonel. He married in 1882 to Ella Carpenter, d/o William. Mrs. Gerhart did in June, 1902. Bucks County History "Gerhart", Henry, of Lawndale, was born in Bucks Co in 1845. His grandfather, Abraham Gerhart, whose son was Elias, married Esther Cope. Nine children were born to the couple, Henry being the seventh. Mr.Gerhart left home at age eight, and lived among strangers. In 1882 he came to Lawndale. In 1871 he married Emma F., d/o Carey and Sophia (Scheip) Snyder, of this county. Children-Leidy, Harriet, and Emma Jane. Members of the Reformed Church. Gerhart, Isaiah, of Holland, was born in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Jan. 19, 1819, s/o Henry and Phebe (Field) Gerhart. When Isaiah was 8 years old he went to live with an uncle, Levi Field, who was a farmer. Isaiah married in Montgomery County to Elizabeth "Eames, a native of Boston, a d/o Robert Eames. They were the parents of 9 children, of whom 4 are living (1887), Angeline, married Watson Spencer in Falls township, Phebe Anne who married John Collum and they lived in Oxford, Chester County, Martha and Frank.
