    2. The Express March 6, 1950 John Wilson SHIVELY, 74, a retired carpenter, died on Saturdayin St. Peter's Hospital, New Brunswick, N. J., after an illness of 10 days. His home was at 134 Parker street, Middlesex, N.J.Born in Milford N.J., on March 26, 1875 he was a son of the late John P. and Sarah SPARE SHIVELY. He formerly residedin Dunellen N.J., and at Morning Glen, N.J. Before he retiredsome years ago he worked as a carpenter for the bridge gangof the Central Railroad of New Jersey.Surviving are his wife, Rose DAILEY SHIVELY; a daughterMrs. Fred PALMER, of South Plainfield, N.J. three sons, Arthur W.of Arbor, N.J., Walter P., of Westfield, N.J., and Kenneth Sr., of Plainfield, N.J.; a brother, Edgar E. of Dunellen, and two grand-children.Mr. SHIVELY was a member of First Baptist Church of NewMarket, N.J.; Old Guard of Plainfield and Camp Washington 96, P.O.S. of A., of Dunellen.Funeral Services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Runyonfuneral home, 204 North Washington avenue. CARPENTER, 92, died this morning at the home of her niece, Mrs. Benjamin FOOSE, of Warren Glen, with whom she had resided since July 1940. She formerlyresided at 437 New Brunswick avenue. Huntington, PohatcongTownship.Born July 21, 1857, she was a lifeling resident of Pohatcong Township, and a daughter of the late Levi and Harriet SIEGEL APGAR. She was a member of Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church near Bloomsbury. Mrs. CARPENTER'S husband JamesA. CARPENTER died in 1933. There are no immediate survivors.Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the StoneFuneral Home, Stewartsville. The Rev. Sranert L. DRANSFIELD, pastor of Old Greenwoch Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Old Greenwich cemetery. Mrs. Fred SNYDER Mrs. Laura SNYDER, of 36 Fulton street, Phillipsburg, widowof Fred SNYDER, died in Warren Hospital yesterday at 12:45 a.m.She was admitted to the hospital on Thursday.Mrs. SNYDER was born in Harmony, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony RICE. She was a member of Wesley Methodist Churchand the Ladies Aid Societyof that church and resided in Phillipsburg for many years. Her husband died in 1948. She is survived by a number of nieces. Mrs. August SOSELY Mrs. Ilona SOSELY, 77, widow of August SOSELY, died yesterdayat her home on the Poor Farm road, near Annandale, after a long illness.Mrs. SOSELY, was born in Austria-Hungary on Feb. 3, 1873, and resided in the United States for many years. She made her home inAnnandale since 1927. Her husband died i 1931.She is survived by a son, August, at home; two grandchildren and fourgreatgrandchildren.Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Trimmer's memorial funeral home, Clinton. the Rev. HOUSEL, former road supervisor of Readington Twp,died today at the home of his nephew, Raymond HOUSEL, of White House Station, after an illness of nine weeks.Mr. HOUSEL was born in Pleasant Run, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David HOUSEL. He lived in South Branch and Neshanicbefore moving to Whitehouse about 27 years ago. When he retired after serving as road supervisor for 17 years he returned to Neshanic, where he lived for seven years before joining Mr and Mrs. Raymond HOUSEL at their home in White House Station three years ago.Before becoming township road supervisor he was a farmer.He was a member of the I.O.O.F.of Three Bridges and South Branch Reformed Church.He is survived by a son Andrew, of Neshanic and a sister,Mrs. Annie AGANS, of Trenton.Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. atthe Maxwell funeral home, Somerville. He retired about three years ago from the employ of the Air Reduction Sales Co. of Hellertown.Born in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late Ferdinand and Caroline PETRI. Charles James LITZENBERGER, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles O. LITZENBERGER, of Coffeytown, Easton R.D.4, died in Easton Hospital last evening at 6 o'clock. He was transferred to that hospital from Temple University Hospitalyesterday. He had been il since November.The boy attended the Deemer School in Williams Twp andwas a member of the Sunday school of St. Peter's LutheranChurch, Riegelsville. He was born in Baltimore MD. on June28, 1933, and resided in Easton and vicinity since 1934.In addition to his parents, he is (paper cut off here) Mrs.Mary M. SCOTT, 87, widow of Gen. Hugh L. scott, who fought Indians in the days of the wild West, died yesterday at her home here. Mrs. SCOTT, died after a long illness. She had lived here more then 50 years. Her husband, who died in 1934, was chief of staff while the United States was preparing for World War I. He reached retirement age in 1917, but remained active for two more years as commandant of Camp Dix (now Fort Dix). A native of Columbia, Pa.,Mrs. SCOTT is survived by two daughters, a son and a sister, all residence of Princeton. Her late husband, in addition to other achievements was assigned to abolish slavery in the Sulu Archipelago, the southernmost part of the Phillippine islands, and was a member of the U.S. Commission to Russia in 1917. Frank D.ABEL, 74, Nazareth Decorator Frank D. ABEL, 74, who operated a paperhanging and painting business in Nazareth for 55 years, died Saturday afternoon while at work in Nazareth. Mr. ABEL'S home was at 158 Whitfield street, Nazareth. He was born on the borough on July 1, 1875, a son of the late Tilghaman and Henrietta ABEL. He was a member of Nazareth Moravian, the P.O.S.of A., and the Sons of Union Veterans, of Nazareth. Surviving are his wife Hattie ROTH ABEL; a brother, Asher, of Allentown, and three sisters, Mrs. Jennie HAY, of Allentown, Mrs. Carrie SANDT, of Stockertown, and Mrs. Irene HARTZELL, of Nazareth. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2;30 p.m. at the ABEL residence. The Rev. Robert I. GIERING, pastor of Nazareth Moravian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot of Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth. Edgar Lee MASTERS, 'Spoon River' Author Philadelphia, March 6 (AP) Edgar Lee MASTERS, who forsook a flourishing law practice to write "Spoon River Anthology" and other widely read poems, died last night at the age of 81. MASTERS had been retired from and active literart career during the latter part of his life and at the time of his death was a patient in a convalescent home at suburban Melrose Park. He was stricken with virus pneumonia several days ago. In addition to Spoon River which made him one of the nation's most talked of poets overnight MASTERS penned a number of novels, boys stories and biographies of such men as Vachel LINDSEY, Walt WHITMAN, Mark TWAIN and Abraham LINCOLN. Born August 23, 1868 in Garnett, Kansas. he was the son of an attorney Hardin Wallace MASTERS, for many years mayor of Lewistown, Illinois. The father was a law partner of William H. HERNDON, once LINCOLN'S ;aw office associate and his first biographer. Robert H. BROCK, 79, Ex-Easton Merchant Robert H. BROCK, 79, who formerly operated a grocery store in Easton, died yesterday at the home of his nephew, The Rev. John BROCK, in Elktown, Neb. Mr. BROCK left Easton 30 years ago after the death of his wife and went to Nebraska to make his home.
