"Gongaware (as it is spelled in Westmoreland) Gangaware (as it is spelled in Northampton County). Jacob Gongaware, s/o Philip G., and Margaretta (Miller) Gongaware, was born in Hempfield township, Westmoreland county, Sept. 1799. He moved to Manor Valley, near Harrison City. He married 1st to Elizabeth Whitehead, d/o Stoffel and Susan Whitehead. Children; Margaret who married Soloman Altman, John, Eliza who married Joseph Myers, of Irwin, Lewis who married 1st to Mattie Alshouse, Jonas who married Alshouse. Jacob Gongaware married 2nd to Annie Steiner, nee Whitehead, a sister of his first wife, and they had no children. Philip Gongaware, son of Peter and Mary (Naley) Gongaware. In 1850 he married Rachel Jane Whitehead, d/o Peter and Barbara (Highberger) Whitehead, and sister to Peter Whitehead, of near Irwin. She died Sept. 17, 1893 without issue. He married 2nd to Ellen Henry, d/o Frederick and Lydia (Gross) Henry of W. Jennette, PA. Peter Gongaware, son of Jonas and Christiana (Naley), married Margaret Kunkel, d/o John and Sarah (Baughman) Kunkel, of North Hundington township. Their daughter, Alice married William Whitehead, and they lived at Pueblo, Colorado. Potts, John P, was born Nov 8, 1857, a son of Daniel and Rosanna Anna (Steinmetz) Potts. The Progenitor of the Potts family in Westmoreland county was John Potts. His wife was Catharine Whitehead and they had 12 children, five sons and seven daughters. One of whom was Daniel who was born 1822. Earnest, Jacob, grandfather, was born near Greensburg, Westmoreland County. He married ____Shaffer, children; John who died in 1903, Mary, who married Andrew Baker, of Salem township, Sarah who married Henry Ridenour, of Salem, Lydia, married William Water, of Delmont, Margaret, who married John Wallace of Delmont, Jacob, Heiitie married Obadiah Blose of Delmont, Albert, Willliam and two died in infancy. Jacob, father, was born in Westmoreland county in 840. He married Annie Barrett, who came alone from Ireland in 1842. Children; Robert, Alice, William J, and Albert Alexander. Annie (Barrett) died and Jacob married 2nd to Angeline Sink and they had; Jennie, wife of Walter D. Sceese, Elizabeth of South Greensburg, and Martha of Texas. Albert A. Earnest, married June 15, 1893 to Sadie M. Haymaker, born Aug. 27, 1870, d/o Michael and Elizabeth (Rothomel) Haymaker Best Wishes, Geri
