    2. Express Monday February 16, 1959 Area Soldier, 23, Killed as Radio Tower Collapses Victim Was Brother Of Man Who Died In Car Crash Pfc. Verne O. ABEL, 23, Pen Argyl R.D.1, died Friday of injuries suffered in a 50-foot fall while on duty with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Germany. His parents, Lesler and Sarah YOUNG ABEL, Delabole, learned of their son's death in a Defense Department telegram received Saturday afterno! on. According to the message the soldier was working on a radio tower which collapsed when a guy wire apparently slipped. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital. He suffered internel injuries, the telegram said. Further details will be given by letter, the department advised. Another, son of Mr. and Mrs. ABEL died in a hig! hway accident last July 28 at Saylorsburg. He was Duane C. ABEL, 25. Verne ABEL, born on Pen Argyl, was graduaed from Easton High School in 1954 and entered the Army that March 4. After training at Fort Hood, Tex., he was sent to Germany on Sept. 21 and was attached to Co. B. Army Quartermaster and Signal School, Lengries. Before entering the Army he was employed by the R and R Toy ! Manufacturing Co., Pen Argyl. He was a member of Arndt's Lutheran Church, Forks Township, and the Emlyn H. Evans American Legion Post and Dyle Bray Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, both of Bangor. The parents are the only survivors.
