Fries, Franklin S., subect, of Montandon, Northumberland county, was born Jan 1, 1861, in Lewisburg, Union County, son of Frederick Fries and grandson of Rev. Jost Henrich Fries. Rev. Jost Henich Fries, was born in 1777 in Germany. He was twice married, and by his first wife, Catharine (Groff) and had two children. His second wife, Susanna (Groff), born him 11 children. Frederick Fries, son of Rev. Jost Henrich, was born in Union County, Sept 7, 1826 and died July 11, 1885. He married Elmira Hassenplug, who was born Feb. 17, 1829 and died Jan 26, 1907. Children; Franklin S., born 1861, Rachel C, born 1863, married William H. Smith, and died Jan 23, 1885, a daughter born 1864, died in infancy, Alexander, born 1866, and Sue M., born 1868. Franklin S. Fries, married Adeline Elizabeth Berkheimer, d/o Henry, and they had 2 daughters, Florence Emma, and Pearl Eva. Mr. and Mrs. Fries also reared Harvey Berkheimer, who married Maggie McKean and has one child, Helen E., and they lived at Milton. Berkheimer I. William, grandfather, born in Berks County. He married Mary Hillhart. Children; Samuel of White Deer, George of White Deer, Henry, Jacob, Mary who married Andrew Fetzer, Margaret, who married Daniel Keiser, and Susan, who married ___Shannon. II. William, son of William, was born March 28, 1827, married Adeline Haupt, who was born Oct 28, 1831, their daughter, Adeline Elizabeth, born Feb. 17, 1865 married Franklin S. Fries. Hoover, John, subject, possibly of the same orgin as the Hoovers previously mentioned, was born in one of the lower counties of PA. in 1780. He was a Lutheran member of the "Brick Church" (Reeds), where both his wives are buried. His first marriage was to Margaret Ritter, who died Nov 1l, 1828 aged 44 and the mother of 8 children, Samuel, Joseph, who married Katie Katerman and they had 8 children; John, who married Elizabeth Wolverton and they had 4 children; Annie married George Krick and they had 6 children; Thomas, married Katie Krigbaum, and they had 4 children; Rebecca, who married George Keller, and they had 2 children; William, married Louisa Baldy and they had 6 children; Solomon, who married Ellen Brooks, he married 2nd to Sallie Fredericks. For his second wife, Mr. Hoover, married Mary HARMAN who died Nov 23, 1883 aged 84y 6m 12d. Children; Louisa, married Daniel Yost, J.
