I am searching my LONG ancestors - in Pennsylvania. I have a great deal of info from my gg grandfather (John LONG) on down the line in Canada; so I am now interested in going back to Pennsylvania - and who know maybe one day the German records, if that is indeed where they originated. I was truly hopeful when I came across this posting: (because some of the LONG names are ones I know that have been used down line in Canada, because of the LABAR & RYMAL connections with the LONGS in Canada. Barbara LONG married to William REIMELL are probably the same William RYMAL & Maria Barbara LONG who immigrated to (Upper Canada), because a David LABAR was witness at my gg grandfather, John LONG's first marriage and John LONG named one his children Barbarba Rymal LONG. Where did you come upon this information? I will give you a brief synopsis of what I know: Jacob LONG* (either born in or immigrated to Pennsylvania). William LONG (Jacob's son) was born in Pennsylvania, probably 13 Nov 1782 . Immigrated to (Upper) Canada, now Ontario, with his parents abt 1793. Died 26 Sept1858 in East Flamborough Twp., Wentworth Cty., now Ontario, Canada John LONG, my gg grandfather, was one of two children born to William LONG and Cormilla (Cornelia?). John LONG was married twice: 1st to Emily (MARKLE) SHANNON (by whom he had 6 children). A witness at this marriage was a David LABAR. His 2nd marriage was to Adaline GLOVER with whom he had 9 children (including 2 sets of twins). My g grandmother, Clara Cornelia, a twin, was born 05 March 1863, to John and his second wife. It was this John who named one his daughters 'Barbara Rymal' LONG. There is another interesting possible connection to the infamous Ralph MORDEN & Ann DURHAM family. It has been said (no proof and maybe only wishful thinking) that Jacob had a brother Elias who married Catherine MORDEN (daughter of Ralph and Ann). And, John LONG named another of his many children 'Thomas Morden LONG'. *Jacob LONG applied for a land grant, under the provisions made to the United Empire Loyalists (those who remained true to the Crown and often fought with the English against the Revolutionaries). In his petition he said he had joined Captain Wm. Hutchinson's 1st Battalion New Jersey volunteers in 1777. This was confirmed in writing by Captain Hutchinson, Daniel Hazen, James Mathus, and Reuben Green. Captain Hutchinson also made reference to Jacob's father (unnamed) and 'brother Elias'. I would love to hear you feelings about this possible connection. Denise Reynolds
