Northumberland County History Deppen Christian Deppen, the founder of the family in PA, came from the German Palatinate, arriving at Phila., Sept 16, 1736, ship "Samuel Merchant". He settled in Womelsdorf, Heidelberg township, Berks county. Children named in his will, Johannes, Barbara, who married Peter Zimmerman, Anna, married George Yeakly, Treanic, Elizabeth, Thomas, Peter, David (died in 1804), Joseph, Jacob, and Abraham (died 1840) his heir was Richard Boone of Heidelberg. Christian "Deppy" the ancestor, was a Roman Catholice or not is uncertain, but tradition states that he was. His Joseph was a Catholic, as where the latter's children, and a number of the family still adhere to that faith. Most of the name are now living in Reading are members of St. Paul's Catholic Church, (1911). Sober Family, came to America from Germany, and Samuel Sober, Sr., the founder of the family in this section, was a native of NJ. He came to PA, settling in Shamokin township shortly after the Rev. war. His wife who maiden name was Moore,and she was a resident of Shamokin township, their children; John, Michael M., born March 12, 1801, died Sept. 2, 1863, Susan, married Morris Smith, Alexander, Jesse, born 1814, died 1882, his wife, Mary, born 1814 and died 1896, Aaron. Troops Thomas or as Thomas Soper, as Pvt., 3rd NJ Lehigh County History Schlosser, Frank, of Lehigh County, he was born May 29, 1851, which is also the native place of his parents, Stephen and Eliza (Jacobs) Schlosser. The surviving children of Stephen and Eliza, Fiana, married E. Remely, William, Benjamin, Henry, Abraham, J. Frank, and Oswell. Frank, married May 15, 1871 to Ellen Andrews, and 2nd to Josephine Kistler. By his first marriage he became the father of one daughter, Martha J. Tradition states that Johannes "Schmeck" of Alsace township, Berks County was a brother of Casper,and he died in 1762 Christian Schmick, son of Casper, was born Nov 7, 1761. His wife Mary "Mattern" was born Dec 2, 1768, died Aug 28, 1848, children; Heinrich, Casper, Jonathan and Christian. Heinrich Schmick, was born April 26, 1807. Member of St. John's church Reformed at Kutztown. He married Anna Hage, born March 10, 1813. They had one son, William. William Schmick, was born Dec 18, 1837 and died April 29, 1888, and is buried at Hope cemetery at Kutztown. He married Elizabeth Zimmer,born May 1, 1841 and they had 2 chilren; Annie who married J. Richmond Merkel of Bridgeton, NJ, and Henry J. Henry J., was born Sept 12, 1875, he married May 29, 1900 to Hettie K. Ely, d/o Clinton and Sarah (Kleine) Ely of Richmond, and granddaughter of David and Clariss (Breyfogel) Ely. One son has been born to Henry J., and Hettie Schmick, Harlon Ely. Best Wishes, Geri
