Lancaster County History Brandt Family The Brandt family is of German origin. Samuel Brandt, great-great-grandfather, the first of the name to immigrate to America, being a Palatinate, he came in the ship "Samuel" in 1732. He settled in Rapho township, Lancaster County, Besides the landed estate owned there, he possessed several large farms in Dauphin County (then Londonderry township, Lancaster County) which were occupied by his sons, John and Michael, He engaged in farming till his death in 1784. His children as follows; Michael, Christian, John, Yost, Anna, Maria, Elizabeth, Esther, and Jacob. John Brandt, one of his sons, and great-grandfather to Samuel L. Brandt, after his marriage occupied a farm on the Conewago Creek, in the township of the junction of the three counties, Dauphin, Lancaster and Lebanon, John Brandt, grandfather of Samuel L. Brandt in 1784 was indentured to George Rutt for three years, 8 months to learn the trade of joiner and spinning wheel maker. After he had grown to a man's estate, he with his employer and his fellow carpenters built a number of Swiss barns in the vicinity of Maytown. Among these buildings was one erected for Chistian Bucher, one of the wealthiest citzens of Maytown, The young carpenter fell in love with Mr. Bucher's third daughter, Frances, born Jan. 18, 1769, and they were married April 26, 1791. Again in the family history, no mention of a marriage to Stull. Rev.
